I have a four week old MY00, and it has developed a dark ring on each of the front disks, about one inch from the edge and one inch thick. It is not a scratch or score, and if you rub it you nothnig comes off. It looks like actual discolouration of the metal itself. I have never seen this on any previous car, any ideas as to what they might be?

Geezer,
If the discolouration is blue, this is caused by a localised overheating of the disk surface caused by pad out-gassing.
Have you noticed any juddering while driving recently? I got this with my disks after a couple high speed stops. The discolouration disappears quite quickly, and doesn't seem to have any other adverse effects.
Cheers,
Alex

Geezer,
This is rust. It is caused when exceptionally old people drive so slowly around towns on Sunday afternoons, that they can rely wholly on the resistance of tyres on tarmac to stop them.

AlexM,
I haven't noticed any vibrations at all. I'll see if the discolouration disappears.
