Default Scooby newboy - buying advice needed!!

Hello there - this is my first ever post and am looking to buy my first scooby soon! So with any luck, I'll be poppping into this excellent site on a regular basis!

I'm going to look at an R reg (98) Impreza tonight with 96k on the clock.
It has FSH and has had the two cambelt changes.

I've heard horror stories about piston slap and a weak 3rd crank bearing knackin' up in this age of car - after 96k, you'd have thought this would have been sorted by now if it was an issue wouldn't you?

What do you guys think? What should I specifically be on the lookout for?

Any advice would be very gratefully received, but I can't seem to find a 'buying guide' type of thing on the net so that's why I bothering you fella's!

Cheers,
Rochey.

Hi mate

Try looking at lower millage cars
There are so many Scoobs about at the moment I know cos Im looking and I have seen some really nice ones I wouldnt buy anything with this sort of millage not unless it was a diesel
It doesnt matter if it have FSH your just buying a very high millage car Im afraid and if its cheap your only going to stay ahead of the game for a short amount of time
I have seen some nice N reg fresh imports for £6k and have only done 40,000 miles
and I have seen a nice S reg that had done 52,000 miles that was just over £6k but it had tracker and alarm
Look about and take your time dont rush into buying anything you will regret it and it will effect the way you treat your car
Good luck with what ever you do
