Have a search and you'll find common thoughts on 'em. To me, that sounds overpriced.

Classic STi 5 & 6s
Like they say, do a search and you'll see posts on the STi 5s and 6s. Common issues are the weak MAFs, inadequate fuel pumps (starvation), wheel bearing and gearbox wear if the car's been well 'used'. Apart from that, if the car has been looked after properly then they'll be ok.
After the full decat as first upgrade, alot of classic STis have been subject to remaps to allow safe running on UK petrol and power boost; the ones done by Bob Rawle, Richard Bulmer, etc seem to be the most desired ones. Some have had bad servicing where the oil has been overfilled in servicing leading to probs later down the line. Timing belt change is 45K, BTW. You need check the SH and background.
As for prices, the Type R, RAs, VLtd etc seem to command a premium as they are the 'desired' classic shape. Forecourt dealers charge up to £14K for some classic STis . On here or SIDC, some are available for 8K+ dependent on mileage, mods, spec, desperation, etc. The realistic price window is 8K-12K, IMHO.
Servicing can be done by many places such as TSL, ScoobyMania, Subaru4You, Cheam, etc, etc
Lastly, make sure you can insure the car! They are group 20 and most insurance companies wont touch the original greys.
These STis are mainly thought of as being the best Scoobys BTW
Oh, finally, I've an STi 5 wagon for sale http://bbs.scoobynet.co.uk/showthread.php?t=404331

At the end of the day, the STi 5 and 6 were designed to run on Jap fuel (100RON) - either get as near to that with Optimax (+ possible decent octane boosters?) and/or get a remap to the fuel you use.
My car has been decatted for nearly 30K miles now but *doesnt* have a remap. In the ideal world I'd have a remap to maximise its potential but I havent had the finance to do it.
I'm not a mapping expert, BTW.. There's been various posts on this subject, so a quick search will see you right

Main bearing failures are a known problem on the v5/6/P1. Make sure that the oil pump has been uprated, which is meant to cure this problem. Mine went pop at 40k and i was gutted, and it hurts the pocket too.
Great cars though, well worth the heartache.
