Selling a Subaru
f**kin impossible at the moment.
sold my 03 WRX today. mint, 33k miles. FSSH tracker, 4 new tyres
been on market for 4 weeks, about 4 phone calls.
id like to hear peoples gusses as to what I got for it, as it seems what people are asking and what people are paying are vastly different.
Go on then guess what it went for?

Fo a private sale, about 14k, if you were lucky. I traded my 53 plate MY03 WRX last month, and got 12k for it. The dealer I bought my new car from called 8 Subaru delerships to try to get a buyer for it, and only one of them was interested - at £500 under the book value.
To make up for the upset of losing £6.5k in 16 months I: 1) ragged the **** of it for the last 2 weeks of ownership - averaging about 15 MPG and; 2) ripped out everthing that would come off (to sell privately etc.), i.e. tracker, car kit, mats, tax disc etc.
Bottom line is, but a new Scoob, and say hello to massive depreciation and cr@p residuals. Out of interest, why did you sell it?
...Anyone want to by an RAC TrackStar? - currently preventing a box in my attic from being stolen...

sold it cause I do 30k pa, I change my cars anually.
Ive now got a crap 02 punto for work and im buying a elise for weekend.

the civic type r i had year before lost about 2k in a year and i put 30k on it.
i wont be buying another subaru.
1) servicing costs a joke
2) tacky interior
3) drop more often than a ****** knickers
4) performance is over rated when considered in the "real world"

**** me! I must have been lucky to get 12k, especially as the car was 600 miles shy of its 20k service, had 4 bald types, a sizeable dent in the wing (not my doing) and a fine gouge out of the bonnet, thanks to the wheel on the back of some to55er's 4x4.
I assume at £15.8k, it was an import, or bought s/h?
Still look on the bright side, at least no-one will be kicking in your front door at 3am to nick either of your new cars - no sane thief would trust the Lotus not to break down! (a joke, by the way! - they are, of course excellent cars).

I have no issues with the performance - my WRX would happily go where my Seat Leon Cupra fears to tread.
However, the servicing costs are, as you say, a joke - £180 for what is basically an oil change (and a load of 'inspections' that I'm sure the dealers take the time to do). This is compounded by the limited number of dealers - I was faced with a 70+ mile drive, or use the local dealers, who are (IMHO) a total bunch of crooks, with no idea of the concept of 'customer service'.
Grrrrr.

it was a UK car, 12 months old with 3k on when i bought it.

At least you managed to sell it without too much hassle. 4 weeks isn't actually that bad compared to some of my experiences with selling unusual/high performance cars. In addition, you usually get no end of morons and test-pilots ringing up to either: rag the **** of your car with no insurance, or: make you an insulting offer - on the phone, i.e. without actually bothering to come and look at the car!

i got 2 calls one night offering me 10k, the third call that night also offered me 10k 2 sentences into the conversation.
my response
"i tell you what, why dont I pay you to take it away and while your here you can f**k my missus up the a*se"
i then hung up.
i really consider it as an insult when people do that, i think he got the message

Yup, as will the Cupra. The difference is that, on a wet, twisty 'B' road with ruts and potholes, the WRX driver will scooting along with one had on the wheel, wondering which CD to put on next, and the <circa 200BHP FWD hot-hatch> driver will be white-knuckled, clinging onto the wheel for dear life, too frightened to change gear.
On a dry road however, the Scoob driver will be wondering what is wrong with his car...

I sold an old (but damn good) Nissan Sunny GTI ~2 years ago. Asking price was £1,300, which was fair for the age/mileage/condition. Had some oik ring up and offer me £800. I said ok, but that he would have to bring 4 wheels with him <pause> 'cos at £800, I'd be keeping the ones on the car. Click....brrrrrrrr.

5) cant park it anywhere without a massive dose of paranoia, even when on the drive you sleep with the keys for fear fo being burgled.
and another
6) everyone and anyone with a repmobile especially the TDI ones things that my daily commute is a drag race.
Im sick of having vectra and passat sh1tmobiles undertaken me and cutting me up. point in example
i took a right off a a road on to a b road. I was in no particular rush. looked in my mirror and a mazda 6 2.0 stuck to my bumper. so i took the bait on this occasion (shouldnt have) , booted it and left him for dust.
a mile later im in a queue of 4 cars going 60 in a 60 and he flies past me at 80+ then has to anchor on when something comes the other way and slip in in front of me.
just because he wants to prove that his car might be slower but hes a better driver and get their quicker.
when will these peple realise its not about how quick you get their its about the fun you have doing it.
rant over, down with all tile salesman driving TDI "sports", GRRRRR

I did find that the Scoob definately polarised other drivers. 80% of people would get out of the way at the first possible opportunity, 10% would get in the way on purpose, and refuse to move, regardless of the amount of headlamp communication used, and the remaining 10% did exacly as you describe - try to get in front of me at all cost. thats bad news mate.
this country really sucks
an idivdual cant spend their hard earned cash on something for themselves because they fear it will taken unlawfully.
simple solution is if people where actaully scared of cimmiting crime it wouldnt happen, fact is they get off with 3 hours community service while we pay in increased insurance premiums.

im sorry but u cant nock subarus there 1 ov the best cars to buy 4 performace second hand if uv baught new and sold quickly thats your fault ur baunt of lost money the same as any other car the only reason why uv lost so much is that every one want one and the markets flooded with them at the moment

I'm not knocking the car per se. However, the reason I lost a substantial sum of cash is exactly the opposite to your comment - no-one wants them, hence the depreciation.
If there were so much demand for the car, it would be like the BMW MINI Cooper was a couple of years ago - buy one, drive it for a year, sell it for more than you paid for it. My local Subaru dealer has had the same cars on his forecourt for the last 3 months because he can't shift them - not that I have any sympathy because they are a bunch of to55ers.
Also, I think the main reason that Subaru still manage to sell so many new cars is that it likely that most of the used ones have been driven 'enthusiastically' at best, and abused at worst.

NOONE WANTS THEM, FACT!
with 3 years free servicing and dealers dropping their pants on new cars who can blame them.
I walked into a dealer last week and they dropped £750 off before id even told them what car i was interested in.

I wouldnt complain about the servicing costs - all main delaers for any make are like that.
Take my missus 1.2 Punto Sporting, now 4 yrs old - main dealer wants £180 for 12month service, plus another £42 for the MoT. (last year was £245 incl brake fluid, year b4 was £180).
My Scoob is actually cheaper than that to service
