Jap import v UK

Jap import v UK
I have decided to purchase a scooby but I am torn between a jap import or a UK model.
I have been given advice not to get the import due to 'engine issues', insurance and various other wierd and wonderful reasons. As the people who have kindly given me advice probally havent got a clue, I am hoping to get a straight and honest answer from someone on this Scooby site.
I have around 5k to spend, if that makes a difference.
Thanks for you help.

There are no "engine issues" with JDM cars, unless people run them on less than 100 ron rated fuel, then they have issues (95 will just kill the engine, 97/98 will kill it but it takes longer).
First thing id do is check your insurance, see how much difference there is between a uk and jdm car, then find out if your insurer is mod friendly, that one does help a little

JDM is far superior. Higher spec engines, toys , quicker and you get a rear wiper!! The uk equivelants have a lower power output, no climate or rear wipe. The uk cars dont have to run octane booster however and are cheaper to insure. If you can get insured reasonably id go for a JDM model.
I drive a uk car btw.

All very useful replys, thanks.
Do Subaru garages generally accept JDM’s for servicing and repairs? I have had experience where main dealers do not accept imports (I once had a Nissan MPV).
Also, I have seen Scoobys for sale advertised as a ‘fresh import’. Is this a good thing?

(Sorry for being so naive)

Usually a 'fresh import' is better; Id suggest that its better to get a car as soon as its landed; but tha tdoesnt mean that the cars good, theres a lot of ****e being imported now.
Some dealers are helpful, even having access to chassis number records whilst others wont entertain you.
