If the wrx is the 'bug eye' version, these unfortunatly do not hold their value to well.
The colin mcrae impreza (also known as 555 I think) will be an import, so check insurance first.
For that sort of money (6 to 11K) you can get yourself a nice sti import. (sti 3,4 maybe 5) These start with 290bhp and with a little fettling, can produce a reliable 330bhp.
All I would say is, look at as many scoobs as you can. For that sort of money, you'll find a beauty!
Check out www.wrx.co.uk for specs on most scoobs.

Damaged alloys are a clear sign of abuse. If it was just one wheel, fair enough, if all 4 though, walk away and tell the guy why. Would be safe to say that the geometry would be out (check tyres for uneven wear) and it might even have bent driveshafts.
Again, was it a classic shape or bug eye?

It was a bug eye as is the 2001 WRX,would i be better off looking at the earlier models say from 2000 down, that link you gave me has got some beauts in,the car will be used as an everyday car, school runs and driven by the wife are they reliable as everyday motors?

For 10k, you should be able to find a good, late impreza.
Nothing wrong with the bug eye at all, it just doesn't hold its value well at all.
Scoobs are generally very reliable. You are always going to here of bad experiences on here, but its very rare for somebody to say how reliable theirs is!
If they are looked after properly, i.e 10mins slow driving off boost to warm up, slow last 2 miles of journey to cool down, oil changed as often as possible (preferably every 3k) then you shouldn't have any problems.
I have my sti 4 for 15 months now and I have had no problems whatsoever.

she won't when the time comes to sell it. Depends whether that matters to you.
The newage cars are supposed to have much nicer interiors and abit more sound proofing. However, they also weigh up to 200kg more than the classics.

The Colin Mcrae is a UK car. 260bhp means it's got a few aftermarket mods. IMO, you would be better off getting a non-special edition car as they are much cheaper for sommat which is mechanically the same
