Mines packed up and I think a wire may have come adrift. Anyone know if it can be pulled out from the front or do you have to access it from behind via the hifi aperture.

Thanks

Russell

Wink

If I remember rightly you have to TEASE the console surround away (use a screwdriver and cloth/card to protect surround) which leaves stereo intact, ashtray and lighter come away with surround

I'm sure it won't be BUT

If I put a ciggy lighter device in, I have to be sure that the contacts don't drop into the holes in the chasis. In holes - no work (Also bad design )

Maybe worth a go...

If it is dead and you can't find any blown fuses it may be the fusible link on the back of the *** lighter socket. You need to pull off the centre console trim around the gear lever (just pull up the front bit with the gaiter- hand in the gaiter hole, sounds australian?) and then once this is twisted out of the way you need to grit your teeth and remove the thin plasticy centre dash surround which the *** lighter is attached to. All I can say is just pull but try and get your hands on the strong bits - if you can find any. That bit requires nerves of steel There is a little link thing on the back of the lighter socket which will need replacing - I just used some fuse wire as a temporary bodge.
Moral - don't try and use a 12v car kettle.

My centre console panel needed to be refitted yesterday and I took it to Subaru to sort it out. They did the job as I watched and thay pointed out how the problem occurs.
The console is held in place with 4 spring clips. It seems that the clips ping off when you remove the unit and disappear never to be seen again. Therefore, take great care when removing it.
They removed the arm rest and gear lever surround first and this is just a couple of screws.
Hope this helps.
