Default alloy wheel cleaning

hi all
i have just cleaned and polished my car, and i have noticed that my alloys are starting to look a bit yellowy rather than silver (see pic below).

what i am wondering is what to clean them with ?
should i use "wonder wheels" or similar ?
thanks all

Chris

If you want to do them properly, 1st thing - jack up car and remove wheel (1 by 1 obviouly, or car will fall over! )
I know it sounds like lots of hassle, but doing it once / twice a year is worth it.
Next, all it takes is one of the commercially avilable wheel cleaners ( i use Cheap Halford's own, but I'm sure most will work fine) and the key is plenty of elbow grease!!!
Also, get a proper wheel cleaning brush / pad. Again, nothing fancy - just cheapo from halfords. Wet wheel, spray on stuff, leave for 2mins, scrub til blue in face, rinse wheel.
Repeat if neccessary. Only thing, as most cleaners slightly acidic, don't leave them on wheel too long.
If you want clean sparkliness to last longer, you could add coat of wax after cleaning, then re-fit wheel.
Hey presto -
Should only take 15 mins or so per wheel.

many thanks for that.
for the wax coating, do you mean a resin polish or similar (i.e. autoglym) ?

thanks

If you are cleaning your wheels properly, then Wonder wheels will work really well.
To make them really spotless, if they have tar spots on etc, use white spirit and wash again.
Finally use a decent wax such as Meguiars Nxt to finish.

Its worth the effort.

probably

throuble with 206 forums , they tend to be about 1.1 litre engined car owners who want to get 200bhp out of the thing for £5 !

i trust the comments & opinions of the people on this forum much more than them, plus i am looking at getting a scooby of my own soon.

Try getting hold of some mequiers wheel cleaner, brilliant stuff!
You can order online at: http://shop.meguiars.co.uk/cgi-bin/c...at=ENT_OTHER#5

Used it for 2 bottles now, and brings my wheels up shiny everytime, even if they do need respraying.
Big thanks to ***** above for switching me onto there products

chris.
