Unhappy

They have taken a big drop in value recently This may not have been helped by the class of person who can now afford a classic and that in itself has devalued them with the tasteless mods they fit

At the moment they're hard to shift- probably because there are a lot out there due to people upgrading etc... But once the good un's become rare, I predict nice ones will be very collectable and command a decent premium.....At least that's what i keep telling myself! :-)

Much the same as cossies did a few years ago. You used to be able to pick up a sapphire for just over £2k and an escort for £8k but now they are £4.5 & £18k respectively

just bought a classic for £4400. it is an import though but standard apart from a turbo timer. done 71k miles.

mate has also just bought a classic for £2800. has a few goodies on and some rather not so good ones. like the folding ironing board on the back of it. still nothing that £120 for an sti style spoiler won't sort out.

If you don't mind me asking, how much was the insurance on your £4400 and your m8's £2800 Impreza?

I'm agreed with New-Scooby, pristine low mileage classics will hold and even gain in value, even now unmollested examples are becoming rare.
Besides the "blue footwell neons" would kind of put me off the one advertised !.

one big problem is the constant evolution of subarus ie classic phase 1/2 bugeye blobeye o5 spec-good for people buying the latest technology but bad for people selling a perfectly good car several specs out of date

I think that they will always depreciate as a car as they were so mass produced. The Escort Cosworth was only a limited production and so are still extremely exclusive. The more sort after models suc as P1, etc may hold their value but the regular UK turbos won't as they are very accessible to all walks of life.

Sold my MY00 with 60kmiles on the clock for £8k, but spent loads on it with the following spec:

VF23 Turbo
APS TMIC
Ecutek remap
550cc injectors
uprated fuel pump
panel filter
decat downpipe
decat midsection with backbox
Dump Valve
AP clutch
Quickshift
17"inch prodrive wheels
+ loads more stuff

Spent loads on it, but with modified cars you dont get your money back, paid about £11k a year ago for it with 51k miles on the clock.

Why did you do all those modifications and then sell it?

The fancier models are still holding up okay due to the fact there are fewer around (particulary type-r's and ra-v limited/555's) but the bog standard uk classics and early import wrx's are getting hit hardest, which are not being helped much by the fact imports still come in.

Would expect prices for those to level out however and good clean models to start to pick up in value over time.

what was the sale price of the car on e bay . as a matter of interest, this may give a truer representation of values, also bearing in mind e bay wont always get you the best price for your car !

sorry to be picky but it was only the escort cosworth monte carlo that was a ltd run with 500 made to celebrate the winning of the rally.

other than that the esc cos run from as early as a few j plates to about an n reg on normal production and it was because eco weenies in the eu ruled them out for being too noisy / high emissions and if ford met the levels it killed the power of the car.

but there will have been more scoobies made than esc cos.

I bought a 2001 classic just before xmas for £7K. Thought it was an absolute bargain and have loved it since. Some dealers still have them up for £10-11K though!!! Buy them while they are cheap I reckon.

Classics in good condition with no modifications will eventually be worth strong money. It had such an impact on the affordable high performance car market that it will one day have a cult status, similar to that of the original Golf GTI now.

The reason the Integrale holds its value is due to no new models being made available, same with the Escort Cossie. Subaru's arnt the same so you will always see a drop in value, 22B and P1 included. 22B has more chance of retaining some of its value over other classics but the P1 wont, it's not special enough.

The rare Imprezas will be the 1 Owner, Uk, unmolested, untracked, fully serviced cars (of Wagon and Saloon) BUT the wagons will probably be the most sought after as they are the ones more likely to be the best.

Prices will go up as the Bug-Eye will STILL be ugly and the follow on is no picture!

Personally think ALL scoobs are dropping in value:

£17, 995 - BRAND new scoob

This is due to the overselling of the new cars... Basically those that want a modified car are willing to pay - (providing they know what modifications costs_) otherwise how can second hand scoobs (mainly classic) compete with a massive reduction on the true price?

£17, 995 - BRAND new scoob

I paid 4.5k for my Wagon one year ago (and that was a good price). I am looking to sell soon and would take 3k.. I think you can call that losing value!!

95 UK Turbo Wagon
ScoobyECU
Magnex centre decat
HKS SSQ dump valve
113k and counting..

I think the main reason for the weak values of the classics is all the imports. The market's flooded now, so prices are bound to fall.

I dont really see why prices will increase much either (maybe with the exception of P1's, 22B's) - Cosworth's were made in far smaller numbers than Impreza turbos remember.

To be honest I don't really care too much about the value of my MY00 dropping because I didn't buy it new and nor did I buy it as an investment. The only reason for buying mine was to enjoy it and I do everytime I drive it.
