Car jacking and following.....?
Guys,
I keep reading on here about people being followed in their Subaru's or being beaten up for their keys etc...
What is the score with these cars really?
Yes the Impreza is a nice motor, but boy there are loads of far better cars to deprive people of on the road. £60k + Merc's, top of the range BMW's, Porsche's etc etc.. Why are people not followed in these as much, or are they?
Is it a case of perhaps a little too much paranoia? Agreed if you have been beaten up for your keys then yes it is serious, but maybe just a case of being in the wrong place at the wrong time and you happen to have a Subaru?
Or is it really that these cars are a magnet for trouble?
Maybe it is just that there is a central place like Scoobynet that brings all the problems to light which makes it look worse than it is.
I have had several nice and expensive cars, but I have never heard so frequent stories of being followed or watched.
I am interested in all your views on this subject?

Cars are stolen for different reasons. Scoobs are very popular with bank/security van robbers, ram raids etc. They make for a effective getaway and many Police forces dont even bother engaging in pursuits of these cars. The criminals know this and this is why so many are taken at car-jacking, gun-point, house break ins etc.

Nail on the head, hit!
Don't panic, be vigiliant, use common sense and chances are you'll never have any problems. Scoobies are no different to any other nice performance motor with a reputation for being very quick; they attract attention, sometimes the wrong kind of attention!
PS I'm going to start a "my Scooby was still on the drive this morning thread"!

yes it does stand out and has a unique sound that also draws attention.
May be people with less car knowledge automatically know that scoobs are quick due to their rally relationship, but dont realise the power of other motors around like bm's and mercs?

The more annoying side of the Scooby being easily identifable as a quick car is not the risk of attracting the scum, it's all the idiots in Novas, corsas, diesel estates, MPVs- you name it- that want to try it on.

I think the Scooby just suffers from having the desirable qualities of a getaway car:
Handles OK with good grip
Quick
Better than average ground clearance
4 doors, seats 4 people
Boot space
I'm hard pushed apart from an EVO to think of a car that has all these things. Then when you consider that there are lots of Scoobs and EVO's out there it's a bit of a no brainer for the criminal.

It's definately a case of you'll only hear the bad stories (no news is good news) and on somewhere like scoobynet it's obviously going to involve scoobs. If you look into this (on other marks forums) you'll find equally alarming stories about other car are just as common.
As already said if you take reasonable precautions and use common sense the chances are you'll be ok. On the other hand if your in the wrong place at the wrong time it won't matter what car you in, it'll happen..!

Well I never been followed but it def causes unwanted attention! one that stands out more than others is I was cruising along a carriageway, doing bout 80 and only one car ahead of me, anyway pulled into the outside lane to overtake it and the nutter tried to run me off the road! he basically swerved in front of me, I slammed the anchors on, he swerved back and fo a few times and I dropped the cog when the timing was right to pass him.
Weird, cos as I passed him he gave me the thumbs down as if to say, crap car matey! anyway I just gave him the finger and away I went
There been a few occasions as well where they just stick to your **** end just to be annoying too.
