Red face SUBARU WARANTY 1 YEAR £1223

I was just astounded today I went to a dealership and found for a Turbo model limited to under 60Km was a stagering

£1223 for just 1 YEAR

There was a price difference if the warranty is taken out Prior to 33 months but unsure of Price as mine is just over that

Tony

I was in my dealer at the weekend and asked the question about warranty prices, I was told £550'ish for one year and £1200'ish for 2 years.

!!!! Its recently doubled in price !!!!

Do Subaru really pay out that much on extended warranty - I thought Scoobys were bullet proof !!

The dealer wasn't happy as a three year old car has to be supplied with one year warranty which will cost him say £500. In the long run it means part exchange prices will drop to pay for the warranty !!

Default WHAT!!!!

Anyone else any insight on this ? My car turns 2 soon and I was planning to keep it and pay for the xtra warranty in a years time. If the Subaru are asking this kind of money then I'll be swapping the car in 12-months come hell or high water.

Question is will it be another Subaru or not ? I reckon their customer care isn't what it was so I may have to defect.

I thought the extended warranty was £500 ish to take it to 5years/ 100K miles.

Thanks Rich. I missed that thread.

Makes sacrey reading. That changes things. There's no way they are getting that sort of money out of me when the warranty finishes. Don't mind paying for peace of mind but that is a ridiculous price.

Especially when Hyundai do five years across the range as standard. OK. not my sort of car but it kinda puts things in perspective.

Oh for the good old days of customer care...... (goes teary eyed and stares into middle distance)......

Letters of complaint to Subaru UK I think!
Rob,
I also posted on that thread, most who did, found the dealers price had gone up to the Price you stated above I after the tread rang around and got same prices. OK I thought was a bit steep for 2 years but hey Ho

I went today to sort it out and now dearer than that, for just 1 year

Which has had a knockon effect on secondhand Value of my Car

Tony, the price you were quoted is a complete and utter joke, who in there right mind would pay thay price along with the ones I quoted! This is making my choice of buying a new Subaru easier, i.e stuff em!
I did hear there might be a review of the extended warranty cost but one things for sure it wouldn't be near the old prices.

Also if you want the extended warranty on new cars you will have to purchase it when you buy the car and not when your warranty is about to run out!

Rob
I heard 1 year @ £1223 is the reviewed Price their not even doing a 2 year deal.

Not sure if owning another Scoob is such a good Idea. 1st year big losses and now 3rd year will be the same prices for 3+ year old Car's will drop like a stone Bet it will be closer to £12k by May.

This really is a stitch up of epic proportions. I bought my car intending to keep it for 5-years. As part of the pre buying negotiations I asked how much the extended warranty was "Bout £500" I was told. (Not having a pop at the salesman at all here, he didn't have a crystal ball and that was totally correct at the time). A price increase of this size massively increases the cost per mile or Total Cost of Ownership of the car. Had I known it was gonna go up like this I would've bought the warranty last year.

Anyone seen anything about this in the motoring press ? If not I'm sure that they would be interested to hear about it. This is the sort of thing that they love.

Also, one of the reasons that was given on the original thread for the price going up is a change in FSA rules. If that's the case then surely every other manufacturer would be in the same boat. Has anyone extended a warranty on another manufacturers car and had the same thing happen there ? i.e. an overnight doubling in price ?

I was Told, rightly or wrongly the reasons were that the 'Subaru part Proven Warranty' made extremely heavy loses. Far Tooooooooo many claims and not enough income apparently

There was a report recently stating that Subaru have the highest average warranty cost, IM then put out a press release stating that the assumptions were all incorrect & based on JDM cars & the price of cabbages etc.
Looks like they've found the report was closer to the truth than they'd realised.

According to http://www.reliabilityindex.co.uk/se...s.html?apc=311
the average Impreza warranty claim is £1,146.67 so they should make £76 per car pa.

Don't they just love to take the P*ss, it will come back and bite them in the ****, when people start to find out the real cost of ownership, body inspection at year 1,3,5 what's all that about in this day and age.

Rant over

The ought to look into the Hourly rates at their main Dealer's

One main dealer charges £120 for an Oil change the Other £70 material cost were exactly the same

I've got a MY00 UK Wagon on 54k which has a FSSH and is just coming to the end of the extended warranty period.
Had a chat with my local main dealer who told me that to renew would be in the region of £1200.
I'm a bit gutted by this but not as much as the dealer, they're not happy because as well as the warranty work, they stand to lose a lot of service customers as if people no longer have to keep a FSSH up to validate their warranty, they're not going to bother paying main dealer prices when there are cheaper independants springing up all over the country.

HOWEVER!

They did say that the warranty company was considering introducing different 'bands' of pricing due to the different vehicles that were due for renewal this spring (P1 etc) so there might be a bit of a drop for Turbo2000 owners.

I still think that if you want a warranty after Feb/March, you're going to have to go to an independant company, bit of a bummer all round really!

MY03 WRX has had 2 new rear Diffs at around 2500k each after 12000 miles and the problem is still there, no wonder prices are going up.

Yeah, but all that says is the Subaru quality is going down the pan and they expect us to pay for it. Either that or you like handbrake turns.

MY99 RB5 76,000 miles owned from new and worst repair bill has been MAF and O2 sensor.

£1220 for 1 year is taking the pi$$ IMHO. They should sort out their build quality if there are so many claims. And if there are so many I can see why they'll use any mods as anexcuse not to pay out.

I'm in the same boat as Tony W.....

02 Sti coming out of warranty.

I spoke to the dealer in January and was quoted £550 for two years extended warranty.

I rang them them just as threads started late in January and they admitted that the deal was under review.

They have not rung me back since.... despite promising to.

I will call them tomorrow and let you all know the score.

My personal view is this:

We live in a risk based society.

Extended warranty = £1200.00

Risk of 02 Sti (25000 miles with oil change every 5k) blowing up (engine or gearbox or diff) 1: 4 or 1:10 or 1:100?

I would say better than 1:4....less than 1:100?

Cost of second hand engine/gearbox/diff....between £500 and £4000.00 fitted?

Put 1200.00 in the bank and take the risk.

I can live with rattles, minor electrical problems and scratched windows.

Seems like a simple case of keep hold of your money and stuff IM!

I'll let you know if the bookies have to pay out!

Do I have to buy a Ford now?

Regards,

Korky

Korky,
My Old Dealer (Now Lexus) offered me a limited Warranty for £250 for 2 years, OK you only pay for what you get, and not sure of limitations buy I'll stick £1000 in bank and put the £250 on Scoob and hedge me bet's

Tony

Ps hopefully PX'ing it before then

3-year warranty on my STI02 has also just expired, won't be bothering with extended warranty for that sort of money.

If engine (PPP) blows will get a 2.5 fitted and professionally mapped.

Mine has done over 52K miles with FSSH, no funny noises or behaviour from the engine so far.

I hope subaru stand to lose a fair amount of business over this debacle. I told em so on my new car buyer feedback form last night - be surprised if they respond though. It was part of the buying decision for me: that after 3 years I could spend a reasonable amount and have a further 2 years warranty was appelaing - and would no doubt enhance the resale value of my car if I sold it at less than 5 years old. If it stays as it is, I'll get shut just before 3 years old (and hence get spanked on the price) and never buy another scoob. What are the extended warranties like on Evo's? are they as bad I wonder?

That's very good! Do you know if that's a standard price? Does it take the warranty to 5 years, unlimited miles?

Jag wanted £1200 for one year. Pass!

I have always thought the same, hence over 5years of UK Subaru ownership

When you Considering an Import with a propriety 2nd -5th year Warranty or UK with Subaru Manufactures 3yr Warranty. You weigh up "Purchase, Resale Value and running Costs" and risks of being outside the "UK" Umbrella
Although the UK Car is dearer, a Manufactures 5yr Warranty option meant it was better 'Buy' to me.

Unfortunately this is maybe no longer the Case. Perhaps a nail in the Coffin to far for UK Cars

Making Parrallel and JDM Imports even more viable, IMHO

T5NYW,
Today I have extended my STi MY02 UK with PPP, warranty to 5 years/60,000 miles for £1178.
For year 4 only it would have been £555 (didn't confirm what mileage that was for).
My car is 32 months old.

Cheers

WTF is going on (sorry not having a go at you)

I inquired and was ready to purchase on 2nd Feb, my Car is 36months just before 1st April (not sure of date). So I expected to extend existing Warranty, or sorted in PX deal as i have done in the Past.

Warranty has always been much dearer if done after existing Subaru Warranty has run out or missed service schedule.

I was and mate, Deffinately quoted by Main Dealer £1223 for ONE year and that was limited to under 60Kmiles

"They" apparently just had the New scheme and differences Fully explained to them

Have they "IM or Proven", had a change of "Policy" or heart ?

About time "they" Officially informed the 'Owners' who will lose out because of indicession and incompetance. No piont in making up a rule if under 32 months price "£Y" if over 32months price "£Y" x 2.5 I perhaps they are totally uninterested if 'Owners' lose out. "rules are rules" even if nobody knows them

So a word of warning if your Scoob is getting near 30 months old, Ask Dealer to double check Terms and conditions for Extended Warranty or you will get Creamed :rolleyes"

IMHO

Playing devil's avocado here but you have to remember that the dealers can only sell you the extended warranty approved by IM, which is through a third party company who have put their charges up because of new FSA legislation.
The dealers are only one place removed from the sh1tty end of the stick where we find ourselves.

After my next service in a few weeks, I'll not be going to another main dealer for aftercare, I don't think I'm alone either.

I hope any of my Post didn't read like the "Dealer" was as fault, because it wasn't meant to if it did
I apologise to all of the Dealers out there

They were far less imformed than 'We' are, and were quoting from rushed "Memo's" and recent 'Training'. I did actually feel a bit sorry for them. As could understand his issues with passing on the costs of near 3yr old PX's which reflected in the eventual PX value.

I think words were 'Don't kill the messenger'. They concidered themselves as mushrooms, Kept in the dark and fed on bullsh1te. As you said only just slightly further up the sh1ty stick.

An Ex main Dealer quoted me for a 2 year Warranty Scheme £460 thats about £2000's cheaper. OK may not be the all singing dancing Subaru one, but £2K cheaper, "No brainer" comes to mind
