Default Sti Ver 3

Hi,
I've been looking around for an Impreza for along time, at around a budget of £6,500, but i was recently informed of a Sti Ver 3 coming up for sale and when i veiwed i fell in lovewith it, however its way over my budget of £6,500 this one being £9,000, but after learning more about them i cant turn this down!, the car is on the R plate (1997) with 57,000miles, exedy racing clutch, full titanium exhaust system and 330mm brake upgrade, does £9,000 seem a fair price to pay? thank you....

R 97 cant be a version 3 as the version 3 ran between 96/9 and 96/8, more likely it is an sti version 4. though £9000 seems a little on the expensive side for a R 97 you can get an sti 5 for about £9000.

he would not get 320bhp from just an exhaust and air filter. he would need some form of boost increase and fuelling to match to get that from a vf24. and at 320bhp that is very close to the limit of what a vf24 can output. My personal opinion would be to look for a completely standard car you will be much happier in the long run. take it from someone who has had no end of problems with buying a modified sti version 3

Thanks for your help much appreciated, im beginning to think that the car might not be all that it seemed, and £9,000 for a 97 does seem alot, and seeing as autotrader has a few 3door Type R's around £10-11,000 this one does seem alot for what it is...

The Type R is beautiful!! I just dont know if i can quite justify £10950, its another £1000 to add to the never-ending budget which originally was £6,500! ;] let me have a think about it

I bought my saloon STI 3, MY97, P plate, an (R plate is a version 4) For £5,500 last June off here, with more history than you've ever seen. So £9,000 is lunatic! The 0-60 figures are STI 4.5 or 4.6 depending on who you believe and 4.3 for the type R/RA. I don't believe there is any need for mods as they are so quick anyway, due to the close ratio gearbox and the weight (1250kg on the STI). As for bhp, mine came out at 288bhp & more importantly 264 ft/lb of torque. Don't get hung up on bhp, I have a mate with an 04 STI with PPP, supposed to be 320 bhp, but I am far quicker. Test drive a few models and you'll see bhp is not the B all and end all

i agree with keef69 power to weight ratio is more important then outright bhp
