A rather primitive and crude application of viable future technology. Several manufacturers are looking into electric turbo/superchargers. Think about the benefits; no lag, fully user adjustable boost, directly controlled by ECU map. Hell, you could even turn it off when the wife drives it

But that is crap !

That power doesn't come for free.....what current is sucked up by the fan will be replaced by the alternator. Alternator driven by engine means that it will sap more power than usual from the engine in order to keep the abttery on charge.

Only way round would be to disconnect the alternator...great until you forget to re-connect it and splutter to a standstill

Aditionally...here comes the science.....
The most powerful 5" in-line axial high pressure fan would ever produce is 300m3/hr (and that's being highly optomistic) which is 83 litres per second

A 2.0litre 4 stroke engine at 3000rpm and full throttle consumes 200litres of air per second.

Work it all out for yourself

What "may" work (if I had the flow/pressure specifications) would be a McCulloch 2stroke leaf blower or bouncy castle inflator LOL connected to the inlet tract

Actually This WOULD work!!

586CFM = 277litres per second:

As long as you don't go above 4000rpm
