Default CHEAPEST WAY TO GET 0-60 SUB 5 SEC

Gonna take delivery of a new MY05 WRX next month, and wonder whats the cheapest way or the fewest component changes to get 0-60 time under 5 seconds ?

Depends who's figures you look at but according to prodrive the WRX as standard is 5.5 0-60 and 4.8 with PPP fitted.

http://www.prodrive.co.uk/uploads/03MY%20WRX%20PPP.pdf

This I would say is the cheapest way of doing it at around £1,600 AND maintaining your warranty.

Cheers

Thumbs up

Is it an Import or a UK car?

if a UK car will need to have PPP fitted(£1600) or anything else will invalidate your warrenty IIRC.

Or remove as much weight as posssible carpets, speakers, spare wheel jack etc, rear seat, passenger seat, radio and Aicon.

if a JDM get a Sports cat and Exhaust and TEK3 remap about £1000

or get 452 BHP T3 at about £9,500

EU car = UK car

UK car = EU car

So anything other than PPP would still invalidate the 3 year pan european warranty.

Its a EU version as I live in spain and ordered it from a dealer here, they dont sell PPP heres so I have to look at other options, I here if u change the whole exhaust system and air intake and intercooler pipes then u can get around 5,0 - 4,9 sec, all the mods for the car I have to buy in the UK so would be greatfull for some website for upgrade parts, been looking at www.scoobyworld.co.uk seems quite a good site, can anyone help with any others

Tony's right, the cheapest way is to loose some weight as suggested. You'd be amazed how much the spare, jack and extra mats weigh..! just carry a can of get you home tyre inflator and an RAC/AA card. I used to only fill to half a tank in previous cars, but in a scoob this means filling up every 80-100 miles, not very practical..!

To get an idea of how much difference 20- 30 kgs (~what the above suggestion weights) enter your figures into http://www.letstorquebhp.com/ then again with the 30 kgs removed. I'm not entirely convinced on the accuracy of their figure, but for this type of comparison it's quite good.

Instead of aiming for a sub 5 second 0-60 time, see if your happy with the way the car drives. It's a slippery, and expensive slope once you begin modding!

Cheapest mods:- Drive it over a cliff. With 1g acceleration it'll take just under 3 seconds to reach 60 mph

Tighten the actuator (free) and adjust the MAP signal with a 19p variable resistor, gut the cats (just your time and lung cancer risk, risk of bits into the turbine), remove the inlet resonator, drop the tyre pressures for a good launch, ice the intercooler, use octane booster, methanol, toluene or race fuel.

You asked for the cheapest way, but the above are what you do to an old hag of a car you want to take banger racing

Buy a cheap second hand large capacity motorbike, and leave the scoob behind, and get to 60 in under 4?

To be honest, I doubt the weight loss of just spares, trim etc would be enough to get you under 5 with a standard WRX engine; although it would get you fairly close. But what odds? Is a 4.9 second car really that much quicker than a 5.1? And unless you enjoy paying out for regular clutches, gearboxes etc, you won't want to be doing full bore racing style drag starts to shave those last 10ths off every time you pull away anyway.

If you're after making the car quicker, nicer to drive etc, PPP is warranty friendly, ECUTEK and exhaust is better value for the performance gain. Check out the drivetrain section.

...i find it helps by refusing to have "fatties" in the car. I tell them to take the bus instead.

Seriously, what would my Uk classic MY00 with full decat and Afterburner angled exit, Sti filter and Tek3 be doing 0-60 ?

Probably looking at about dead on 5 seconds purely depeding on how you launch and when you shift to 2nd. Dump the mates, and run 1/4 tank of fuel you may just sneak a tenth under on a nice cool day with a little dampness in the air.

Does the 0-60 time really mean that much to you?

Arent 0-60 times the stuff of the playground these days. It doesnt really mean a lot does it?

Youd be a lot better off concentrating on your efforts on the "in gear "times rather than anything else.

Cheapest way must be to sell it and get a JDM Version 3/4/5 Sti, 4.5.....0-60 or a Type R/RA Sti, 4.3......0-60. Then you'll have loads of cash left over, for decent wheels, tyres and all manner of mods!

Dawes (£35) + knocklink + Cheap boost gauge = £100 or so if 2nd hand. Now run her with O' booster and on the edge of det/fuel cut whichever you hit first

Personally I don't see the point of being obsessed with 0-60 times! Scoobys (standard UK ones) destroy my car 0-60 but can't shake it after that. Similarly I'm looking at getting an s2000 and my mate with a MK1 120bhp elise keeps banging on about how the s2k is slower 0-60, etc. He's in for a real shock when vtec in 2nd kicks in

rather than aiming for 0-160 in less than 5 seconds having a car that does 0-100 in less than 9 is more satisfying
