Default 22B Question

Hi,

I currently own an Evo 6 but have recently been considering changing my car for a 22B but I have a question.

I was discussing this potential move with a well known north west tuning company and they explained that if I moved to the 22B I would be dissapointed. The reason being, that they have a tendancy to be a little weak in the engine and gearbox area.

Now I don't want to upset anyone with this so please don't get aggitated but I am genuinely interested as I have loved these cars for years but dont want to feel paranoid every time I give it some beans.

Can anyone shed some light on this?

Regards,
Stevie

Cheers mate, its a bit concerning though having to worry about whether my engine will die at any time.

I absoloutely love the 22B but I need peace of mind as well.

Thanks,

i got a 22B about 7 months ago and so far is been on the road for about 2 weeks i have covered about 1850 miles, when i first got it i done about 450 miles and the bootom end give way got it all sorted with a big hole in the pocket and then i ran it in for 1000 miles, then after 400 miles the bottom end gave way again and now the metle fragments in the oil has fu*ked just about everything block, heads, crank, rods the bloody lot, now i think i will be getting a bigger bill than before between 8 & 10 Grand thats when there are som head gaskets in this country for the 22B it can be a pain to find parts for,

Ran my 22b with the GGR Stage 1 for about a year then went over to Gems ecu (BRD) and ran with that at 330bhp and 350ft/lb for well over a year and never had any problems. I also used it as my daily car...250 miles per week throughout that time. No different to live with on a daily basis to the other scoobs I've had apart from more precious and worry about where you leave it.

Hi mate, Evo is a 6 GSR but isnt for sale yet pal as I am only in the looking stage at the moment and am very picky so will take some time.

My 6 is beautiful in Silver with a couple of extra bits like exhaust and filter etc and managed a healthy 307bhp and 291ft/lb on the rollers.

Will post up when its for sale.

Sorry for misleading you mate.

I don't own one mate but Little Miss WRX used to have one(or still does).

Great car but she was forever waiting for gaskets to take months to arrive from Japan and had all sorts of niggling problems with it.

Maybe they are just a little bit too highly strung for frequent use and total piece of mind (only my opinion and not meant to offend anyone )especially when you are used to the EVO.

Not actually selling it mate but if I was i would be asking around 14.5-15K for her as she is a real peach.

I love the 22B, its one of the best looking cars out there but TBH after owning THE best looking car ever, an Integrale Evo2 and worrying every time i heard a strange noise it would do my head in with the 22B. The evo is just bullet proof and really easy to live with.

Cheers mate

Stevie

Threads like this confuse me no end.

Why would anyone want to throw away the comforts of the new cars (MY05 UK STI) for one of these which are now going on 7 year old.
Together with all the issue with getting parts for them, never mind panels whenever they get a bang.

I have driven one & been driven in on by the way.....OK, it was a few years ago now, and yeah if felt quick etc. But didn't appeal to me at all.

Just curious, and not trying to wind anyone up.

Shaun

Shaun - each to their own mate - my P1 feels rock solid compared to a new age STi or WR1 and I'd take the feel of the P1 every day . At the end of the day if you want comfort and refinement with performance then you wouldn't choose a Scooby.

Also a new age STI looks like any other new age scooby or STI. A 22B is very individual and desirable - now you can't say that about too many other scoobies.

Has the vf23 been modified? as they are only rated for a max of 20psi
