Question

Does any one know how many miles an Impreza should reach before major problems? Was told once about a Legacy doing 600,000 miles before it kicked the bucket! Could I expect 200K taking into account how an Impreza is likely to be driven!

Also in general have they proved reliable All the dealers say so, but i was just wondering what fellow owners thought.

Thanks!

Denz,

I used to have a 94MY UK turbo. It had 111,000 miles on hte clock when I sold it, and the only bits that had been replaced were the usual comsumables, such as clutch, discs, pads etc. I had the gearbox looked at and lightly rebuilt, but nothing drastic. Biggest bill was £1000, and that was for all of the above at about 90,000 miles. A cracking car, and no mistake

Question

What about bodywork/rust? Anyone with the older cars seeing any problems there.
I was wondering cause of IM's insistance on bodywork treatments to maintain the rust warranty. Dont suppose theres any galvanised bits in a scooby is there...

Well, the amount of rust on my car was tiny! Probably due to a diet of Autoglym. The front was chipped and there was a little bit of rust on the leading edge of the front wings. Nothing blistering elsewhere apart from the odd bonnet chip that had water ingression. Pretty impressive.

I've got a MY94 WRX Wagon, which has done about 67000 miles, and it's still running OK.

As for rust and it's condition, well, it's got the odd scratch and scrape here and there, and just a tiny bit of rust near the tailgate, but apart from that it's in very good nick, I'm very, very impressed with it, as it's 6 years old. Doubt that my previous mondeo ST24 would be in similar condition 6 years down the line.

Hi Guys.

Mines a MY95 UK turbo with 95000 miles on the clock. Biggest expense so far... 90k service (ouch). Only other things to do apart from pads and disks was a crankcase oil seal (fairly common) and a temperature sensor. It's still on its original clutch (not for much longer though ) and any other expense is down to mods, the latest being a spanking set of 17" wheels .

As for rust, hmmmm..... The sunroof that was fitted from new has started to blister around the surround. Not a car problem but a dealer problem (they f****d it up and didn't treat it properly ). Other than that no probs!

Hope that helps!

Steve

M reg and 107,000 miles, still as sweet as ever! No rattles, no bits falling off. (touch wood!) Blokey at garage said it drove better than a few he'd seen at 50k miles.

Hmmmmmmm....MY98, 56,000 miles.
Been off the road for six out of the twenty one months I've had it. New bottom end, three new gearboxes, two new wheel bearings, new discs, etc, etc.
They certainly aren't bullet-proof, unfortunately!

Certainly not with the amount of abuse you give it, Stef

Under 'normal' driving they are pretty good!!

Thumbs up

M reg with 99K. No probs at all. Had it for ~21 months & biggest expense was (again) the 90 K service. Got it from a Sub dealer with a 3 year warranty when it had 85K on it. Still on original clutch, which juddered when I got it, but is silky smooth now. I guess it'll go one day. Anyone any idea how much a new one should be?

My wife's MY95 Impreza L has 119,000 miles! The only "problems" it's had are: @89,000 miles - power steering pump, @100,000 miles - A/C fan relay. It's been through 3 sets of brakes, 1 clutch, 3 sets of tires, and all the other "normal" maintenace. The car still looks and drives like new , No rattles, no rust.

Hey Steve,

I've got the same blistering problem around my sunroof. (I wish I didn't have the f****r). What did you do? Cost?

I'd appreciate the benefit of your experience!

Cheers
