Default All the IT folk in "What do you do for a living" thread

So, if this many folk in the "what do you do for a living thread" are in IT, surely someone could have posted a suggestion to this:

Does anyone else have the same in-dash display as me in my 99 GT-B, it is called a VICS unit, and if the literature on import Legacy's is correct, than as well as giving a rather Gucci display of how the aircon system is working(the main reason that I can't get rid of it), it has sat-nav (which is currently still in japanese, according to it, I'm 1185KM from my destination, sitting in the middle of an ocean, a la James Bond Lotus stylee) and can be used as a TV tuner/display. There is a CD drive for the satnav behind the screen. If any one has any experience or any suggestion on how to make it work for more than just the air-con, it would be much appreciated.
Cheers
Craig

The thing is, if you had been clearer about your requirements it would never have happened.

Sounds like scope creep (changing requirements after commissioning purchase)!

Default feasibilty study

I think the requirements are clouded here: I believe that the supporting functions should not overshadow the purpose of the system.

Have you tried getting out of the vehicle, then getting back in it

ROFL... or reset the ECU and see if you still have the problem....

More seriously, have you had a look on any stateside or Aussie/NZ websites. Japan can't be the only place they sell these things. Someone's bound to have fixed it... somehow....

I had something similar on my old JDM prelude (japanese Satnav / Climate control functions / TV).

Talk to a Subaru Dealer, if your system was an option for the UK then you should be able to buy the UK road map disk. If it was not an option then you won't!

I found that maps for my system were available for the US and Japan only (I think Australia aswell). Nice touchscreen for the AC though!

Good luck!

Ah, that program hasn't changed in 3 years, must be something else thats screwed. Have you checked the data, or did you do something different to normal?

the classic excuses in my industry ...

  • "well, it works on my machine..."
  • "I've never seen that before !"
  • "I didn't write that code, he did"
  • "I thought that's what you wanted it to do ?"
... and the all time winner...

"What do you mean there's an error? I developed that particular application, and I can assure you that it works 100% accurately."

Rofl -
Has anyone noticed how the user, having been bounced around umpteen different IT departments, has given up on his fault and has either fixed it himself or learned to live with it
