MOT Failures .....
Scoobies are now quite old .... the oldest being, what? 1992 on a K Plate?
Has there been any common MOT failure item that we should look for?
How long to Turbos last?
What is its weakest point?

My K-plate 93 WRX failed on two worn rear drop links last year - £70 each from the dealer!
I had to change a rear number plate bulb for this year's MoT (had been blown for some time, so I specifically changed it). Also had a split steering rack boot around 18 months ago, but I changed that when I spotted it, rather than waiting another 6 months 'till the MoT was due!
Car has done around 130k miles, and is de-cat'ed.

8-10 years is pretty typical to see rubber components failing MOT's
Bushes, gaiters mounts etc.
Plus rust/wear taking toll on balljoints and bearings etc.
Typical for any car really, not just scoobies.
Would expect the engine to blow up or throw a big end before you kill a turbo (never understood why buyers guides always say check turbo...it's one of the last things that die)

Mine failed last week because one of the rear number plate bulbs had blown and the slip-covers on the brake and clutch pedals had worn. The bulb was fixed for free and the pedal slip-covers cost less than £3 each. It very nearly failed on CO2 emissions but passed 30 mins later on the third and final attempt after the MOT tester found a small hole in the centre section and plugged it with exhaust gunk! (Car is a MY99.)
