Insurance cover following attempted theft

Insurance cover following attempted theft
Well, following on from my freinds attack on Christmas Morning, when three guys armed with a pistol "knocked" his fron door and demmded the keys to his WRX 03my. They were foiled in their attempts to take the car, they ran out of time unlocking everything, but subsequently "ran off" with both sets of keys to the car.
When it came to removing the vehicle, as untill a local dealer came back off holiday, the car had to be stored somewhere. Subaru Assist were called, they sent out a truck to "lift" the car, as without keys, there is no way of driving it. It was then stored untill the dealer was open again.
When the dealer phoned to ask for the car to be delivered to them, they then told the garage, as the "owner" was liable for "specialist recovery" charges. These are incurred apparently, if the car cannot be simply "dragged" onto the back of a low loader with a cable.
So, a total sum of £1600.00 was payable to retreive the car! as Subaru assist would only payout £100.00 for recovery and a maximum of 5 days storage.
The car insurance will not cover it, as the "keys were handed" over to the criminals, oh and the house insurance will only pay to "replace two keys" and not even change a door lock, let alone anything else.
SO beware, read all your small print on ANY insurance document, they have ways of getting out of everything these days, so after trying to keep hold of his Subaru WRX, the Christmas goodwill to all men has very much drained away very quickly, especially in the wallet section. So you are all better to do yourself a favour, LET THE ****ARDS TAKE THE CAR ! as then, your insurance will pay out, as if you hang onto it, they wont pay a penny out.
Now if any of you can work that out,as why they cant pay for a few hunderd quids worth of locks and keys, but will gladly pay out £19,000 for a replacement car [???], I think you bettre go work for an insurance company instead of your current trade.

Very sad
When my car was recovered by Subaru Assist (following an unfortunate muddy ditch incident ) it was recovered and stored by the recovery people as "It's Sunday and this is only an emergency service and I don't have time to take it to the dealer" was the gist of it
The dealer / insuance company were charged storage AND specialist recovery servoce because it was pulled onto the flatbed using the winch cable. They were very naughty and said they had to send out a specialist operator and additional time etc - this was rubbish by the recovery operator as it was their standard truck
The dealer were also annoyed as they could see they were "chancing their luck". Subaru assist ought to look into these things. Bet the situation would not arrise with the AA or RAC.

If the keys were handed over under duress, then the insurers should pay up. I'd suggest checking whether or not facing the barrel of a gun constitutes duress.....
