Default Does Anybody Else Get This...

Just been out in the car and had a Renault Megane trying to loose me on a road with loads of roundabouts, then an old Beamer tried to come past me on a 60 limit.
I,m not one for driving hard but i must admit these 2 really hacked me off!

Yep, I just had a Yasis Gti type thing, with fog lights on try and rub me on the A127.

I was just chilling at 70, listening to my Donnie Darko CD and he comes right up behind me and doesn't even bother to over take in the empty right lane.

1 minute later we come up to the roundabout thing near Basildon, so slip down a few gears and he was quickly dispatched

Alternatively: 'pop a (6mm plastic ball) cap in his ***! :O)

Yeah!
Had a close run thing with a volvo 340 on a dual carriageway in sheffield the other night, four chavs in a f reg heap came along side me at about forty,i notice a car paceing me in the outside lane, so i takes a look and low and behold this volvo wants to play,i mean at first i didnt think the sti ppp could match the power of the almighty volvo 340,so i slowed to avoid confrontation, only for the lights to change,so me and said volvo(think it was the sport model, had string holding down the boot lid)side by side, then the lights change and he f****g stalls it,i couldnt drive for laughing!!!!

I've had the same on occasions - and equally have been pleasantly surprised at people letting me out from side turnings etc when I was least expecting it. Strange mixture the scoobs - some people just want to "have a go" others seem to have great respect

Ya know that they say that loud aggressive music makes you drive aggressively and soft gentle music encourages you to drive calmly and with less haste........................................

I've got the Donnie Darko soundtrack........ .................... how the Foook did you manage to keep 70 up man??????????? That soundtrack'll have ya in a coma within 3 minutes.... In fact... I'm amazed you weren't going backwards!!!!

I've had my Scoob for 2 months now and the only people who have challenged me have been in far less powerful cars, without fail everybody i have encountered with an equally or more powerful car has been courteous and friendly. What gets me is that these chavs who try it on, always seem to be genuinely amazed and annoyed when they get whupped!

I go through town nearly every evening and most of the max power guys always have a go, in the 30 limmit , the bouncers at the club I drive past even stopped to tell me how funny they thougth it was when a Ka over took me on the highstreet

i laughed even harder when a sky line wanted to show me how it was done, as he nearly ended up in Macdonalds front window

to be fair I think most just want to see how fast you really are rather than thinking they can beat you

not old, just more sedate. you have nothing to prove against chav cars, it is just a waste of petrol. exotica now that another matter, but you find most of them don't want to play. i don't bother anymore unless i am in the mood (which @ 20mpg) isn't often nowadays. Time and a place. i have a clean license and i want to keep it that way. from Norn Iron we have a saying

[/best Rev Ian Paisley voice on]

JUST SAY "NO"

cheers

Because drivers of exotica feel exactly the same way about you chavs in your scoobys

You need to get a bugeye with a low spoiler: I've had mine seven months and only been challenged once (that I noticed anyway) - by a 1.6 Astra. In police livery, complete with police driver. Tried it on from a pedestrian crossing. Let me see, WRX v. 1.6 Astra in a 0-30 sprint....

I am exactly the same mate, my first Impreza I would race everything.. and if anyone had a go, then I would put the foot down.

Now I dont really bother, if they come up behind me on a country road I love the fact I can stay at a steady 60-70 through the bends (*yawn* twisties.. ) and they either have to go to the limit to even keep up.. or they give up and fall back.

There is more satisfaction doing that rather than "blasting" them on a dual carriageway IMO............ and eventually that "rust bucket" Nova will have a 2.0 16v or turbo'd motor in it and you'll end up looking silly!!

Cheers,
Grant

I just cant be bothered lowering myself by racing cars that wouldnt stand a chance, whats the point, used to get nova/corsa drivers trying to race me all the time when i had my ITR but i would never oblige and just sit at the lights laughing at them for being so optimistic , never been a screw it off the line man anyway, I prefer to tangle with something a bit more evenly matched (evo, m3, etc) , gives you more of a buzz when you whup em. Since ive got my scooby no one in a decent car seems to want to play , perhaps they are scared of being shown up, or maybe im looking too old and they assume i wouldnt want to race (that ageing things a bitch)..

Yeah, in my experience it's always the cars that can least get away with it that challenge it.....I guess they've got nothing to loose. I just let me get on with it. One time I put my foot down away from the lights to get away from some di*kheads in a Chav-a-leer and it just felt like I was behaving no better than them I wouldn't suit Burberry!

I still maintain that one of the Chav babes in the calender was rather tasty

Best.

It's funny reading you guys talking about "lesser powered" cars trying to overtake you or maybe what you imagined as them wanting to race you
The truth of it is more than likely that these people were just going about there day to day business trying to get from A > B as quickly as possible as I do every day in my beaten up old workhorse of a Vectra and some of you seem have a chip on your shoulder that your Impreza should not under any circumstances be overtaken by a car with less than 120bhp. If they do you will make it your mission of the day to overtake them back, come on guys, pull yourself together as you are sounding more and more like snobs..

I have to agree here....

I have, some would say, a very agressive driving style... my "go" pedal only has 2 positions on and off, if I can overtake safely I will, whether I'm in a hurry or not (I don't, however, take risks!)

Some would interpret this as wanting to "have a go" when in fact that is the last thing on my mind..... I just hate the feeling of having my speed restricted by things I am not controlling. Strange thing is... on an empty road I will potter along at the speed limit as nothing is restricting me!

I've had my Bugly for 2 years now But have to say that in that time I've not had that many encounters with "Have a go heros"

Was sitting at the top of the High St, at the weekend, traffics lights on red ( obviously ) enjoying the F4 Burble when this Saxo VTS pulls up next to me.

Usual Max Power mods but I have to admit it was clean which I can appreciate Now despite the fact that the bass that was coming from this car was shaking my spine to pieces (so god knows how he must have felt) what was disturbing me more was that even though we were both idling, his car sounded like a Harrier Jump Jet on vertical take-off!!!

We both nod at each other, the lights go green. I pull away normally and he floors it

It's at this point I couldn't help but start to p!ss myself laughing - he'd replaced the standard BB with what can only be described as a "twin centre exit wheely bin"

I have to take issue with this. I think there is a clear distinction between someone driving ascertively and making prompt, safe overtaking decisions and another who drives like a loon in an attempt to bait you into a race or just because they simply must get past traffic traveling at the speed limit.

I have no problems with anyone overtaking me, regardless of how powerful their car may be.I don't have anything to prove and I don't interpret anyone getting past me as an act of aggression. If they are in a rush to get somewhere and need to travel faster than me that's fair enough. I'd only complain if they'd compromised my safety or that of other road users.

What I object to are idiots who drive dangerously just to provoke you or try and induce you to race them. Examples: tailgaters, poorly judged overtaking at dangerous spots, pulling along side you at speed gesticulating, shouting abuse out of the window for no other reason than that you're obeying the rules of the highway code by not obstructing a box junction, for example. The worst culprits are those who think that lane discipline does not apply to them and that the turn right lane only is -in point of fact- a dragstrip! This is the type of driving I object to, not as an owner of a high performance vehicle, but as a motorist generally.

Belive it or not, owning a performance car does not mean that you have to drive it like someone has spilt hot coffee on your lap all the time!!

Best.

It always seems to be Saxos and Rover tomcats with me. They either try to bait me or they show their appreciation of the car, there's no middle ground. I just don't bother to respond to the baiters. These situations are just so shallow and pointless!

Point taken

As I said I do not take risks or perform dangerous manouvers and would never put either myself or any other road user at risk.

To be honest, up to now no one has tried to push me into a race..... but then.... I don't get my new Scooby till next week... I'm sorta hoping i'll be left alone not having the big wing on the back and just driving a normal WRX! Time will tell.

Paul
