It weighs 50 kilos less without any options added and it has a closed deck block; power output is the same, either 240PS or 260 PS depending on year. It was the cheapest car in the range so its not worth any more than a Std WRX.

Of course thatd be a WRX STI Type RA, which isnt what he said. The first production STI Type RA's were MY96's only produced from the very end of 1995 btw. The earlier retro-modified cars are very rare. I havent ever seen one auctioned in Japan in 3 years of looking; STI1's are relatively 'common' though considering how few there were.

I've just purchased a MY95 WRX STI RA

I'm still trying to find info myself, but it has

DCCD
IC water spray
4 doors!
roof vent
Very high gearing (about 4500rpm @80mph)

The non STI wont have the DCCD or water spray IIRC

the sti sept 94 and you could get an ra version according to the faq, model code was same as the wrx ra as it was modified from production wrx ra.

This seems the one i would be looking for, how are you getting on with the DCCD..??

And does it have central locking and lecy windows..?
I know these arent standered but they often get extra's when new..

I was asking Jay about his AMN; I was correcting that as you were typing! Hopefully its clearer now... Ive looked for a C47D STI for myself for two years and Ive not even had a sniff of one.

Yep probably made in very low numbers and each one was probably a bit of a special order.

Hi. The type R came with all the elec windows, air con, elec mirrors etc. Higher spec than the RA but with the same mechanics and 2 door shell.
DCCD is plenty of fun. When open (Green) car can bite depending on your right foot. Easy to make the back step out if you want to have some fun and quite easy to control. Very enjoyable car to drive.
19mph/1000rpm in top, so yes, around 4000rpm at 80. Bit noisy on the motorway for a long journey but who likes a quiet scoob?

The majority of cars Ive looked at at auction in Japan have had AAC and PS but central locking isnt ever mentioned so I dont know: this is the stuff thats deleted to save weight isnt it? If you 'need' these then perhaps an RA or STI isnt for you? The overall gearing is lower than on a WRX and MUCH lower than a UK car; theyre a very frantic drive. Id suggest looking at a few before you take the plunge as they arent for everyone and they certainly arent the best everyday car.

Agree. Best looking around to see if someone in your area has one and asking if they'll take you out in it. R has c/l.

Mine is GC8C47D

Its the C1 MY95, the C2 has the same model code for a WRX RA. All very confusing...

It doesn't have CL or EW, but does have aircon! Don't understand why the guy ticked the heavy option but didn't fit the relatively light CL and EW

but hey I'm not complaining. I haven't had it long enough to play with the DCCD yet, so can't comment

Thanks for that Jay; being a November 1995 this will be a 'full production' STI Type RA AMN GC8C4DD; I was looking for the earlier 'modified from production' STI Type RA AMN GC8C47D. I going to keep looking in Japan and I'll import it myself if I can find one.

Regards

Not sure. I thought amougst other things one of the differences between a WRX RA and a WRX STI RA was the STI having DCCD. I may be wrong though. Mine's an STI RA and it has it!

No it's not, the STi Ra has DCCD.

Some other points to help you identify your model:
What colour is the car?
Does it have a roof vent?
That year of STi Ra should have the fifth fuel injector, does it?

The WRX Ra has water spray but no DCCD.
