Default sti ver8 versus ver9

Any body here know if a ver9 is any different than a ver8 sti? I've been doing some searches and very little info turned up on the ver9. I hear that the ver9 has twin or dual avcs.

I am confused with the production year for the ver9. Is there a possibility that a 2004 motor can be either a ver8 or a ver9 since the turnover was midway for 2004?

Subaru stopped applying version numbers to STIs with the Version 6. After that its called by its model year. A 2004MY can only be a 2004MY but it may have been produced between 9.2003 and 9.2004. Perhaps if you search or "2005 Impreza STI" you will have more luck?
