Ford owns Lincoln, Mercury, Mazda, Volvo, Jaguar, Land Rover and Aston Martin

Proton own Lotus

Renault and Nissan have a tie-up, but not really a wholly owned thing

GM owns Chevrolet, Pontiac, Buick, Cadillac, GMC, Oldsmobile, Saturn, Hummer, SAAB, Opel, Isuzu, Vauxhall, Holden and Daewoo

Citroen and Peugeot are in the same group (PSA)

Chrysler own Mercedes, SMART, Dodge and Jeep

VAG own VW, Audi, Bentley, Skoda, SEAT, Bugatti and Lamborghini

BMW own Rolls Royce and MINI

Thats all I can remember, feel free to correct

I thought that Daimler Chrysler has major shares in Mitsubishi but don't want to waste much more cash on them ?

DaimlerChrysler were the Majority shareholders in Mitsubishi Motors, but I believe they aren't anymore, although they still hold a large portion.

You are correct that they wont give them anymore money.

Japan's only unprofitable car manufacturer. Probably because other than the Evo and the LS200 they currently make some really **** cars.

AFAIK, GM only have about a 10% stake in Subaru - we're not all driving rebadged Vauxhalls yet!

Also Renault now own a substantial stake in Nissan.

It might surprise you to learn that Porsche, or rather the Porsche family (Porsche is a family owned firm) own a substantial stake in VAG. Thats why there wasnt any concern that Porsche would fold or be bought by a competitor during their lean years in the late eighties and early nineties.

AFAIK, the majority share holder in Subaru is Fuji Heavy Industries (FHI), so they therfore are the 'owners' so to speak. GM and BMW are both significant share holders and therefore are able to benefit from technology sharing, hence the SAAB 9-2X (re-moulded Impreza) and BMW X3/5 (4WD technology).

FHI/Subaru are aparently also quite unhappy with the GM deal as it seems to be very much a one sided thing (typical GM). Presumably BMW are giving back info to Subaru, but I don't know what - possibly how to be an arrogant to$$er technology

Subaru becoming a blend of a Vauxhall Vectra and BMW 1 Series
