Hand Car Wash! - A Huge FLOP

Hand Car Wash! - A Huge FLOP
Over the last few months i have been taking my car to a Hand Car Wash place to have it washed...but only to a selected few that i think are half decent!
Over the last few weeks have noticed, that my car is now full of circular scratches that never used to be there before I even have scratches on the windows!
I believe this is caused by them using dirty Rags to dry the car...
Anyway, damadge is now done..and i now need to sort it out..Anyone recomend something to make my car look like new?
I was thinking of maybe ScratchX by Muguires (think thats how you spell it)

Drop Mark Underwood (aka Wax Wizard) a line, he will sort you out with the best gear for the job.

I have been using a hand carwash too, because Im a wuss and its too cold to do it myself.
Whilst sitting in my warm car, I watched a young lad drop the sponge on the floor, then pick it up and started rubbing it all over my bonnet.(Stones and gravel and all)
When I got out to ask him what the **** he was doing, he replied, "Washing your car."..
W4nker.
I think his Brother who also works there is his Dad, and the girl who takes the money is his Sister and his Mum.......

Scratch X will partially hide the scratches but they will come back.
I do full details on most decent vehicles.
I use a Porter Cable dual action polisher and spend about a day getting the paintwork swirl free and very glossy.
Its not a cheap process and you have to be careful to maintain it too.
I only provide this service locallly to me though.(North Manchester at the moment)

I would never take any car that I cared about to one of those hand car wash places that you often see in supermarket car parks etc.
It is just asking for trouble. I recently took the Wifes 306 to a place in Uxbridge that is quite well known and apparently has a good repuation but was amazed when the bloke dropped the sponge on the floor he picked it back up and started washing my car car again.
I got out and had a moan but his English was terrible and my Croation non existant so what could I do other than pay the £6.
You'll not see me there again.

nothing does a better job then actually doing it yourself IMO
cook a proper meal?
or go through a drive through burger place?
you pay for convieniance, not quality IMO

Yoza, Yoza, Yoza, wash the car yourself mate really no need to suffer from those cold hands. Get yourself some thin woolen/cotton gloves, over the top of these put a couple of pairs of latex gloves (family planning gloves ) even a pair of marigolds will do. May look funny even whimpish however if it saves the repair bills from a pimply faced youth then it's well worth it. Your have warm hands to.

You've then only got yourself to blame for any scratches and won't spend the next 6 months moaning about the guy who's getting paid £2.50 an hour to wash your car because you're too lazy to do it yourself.
I always do mine myself. If I can't be bothered - it stays dirty!!

Post over at http://www.autopia.org with some pics and they'll be able to give you some advise. Most of the stuff they may recommend can be bought from http://www.seriousperformance.co.uk/
You might be able to get most of it out by hand, but if it's really bad then you may need to enlist the services of ***** or someone with a machine polisher.

Its pretty incredible that people are so lazy that they are prepared to watch some divvy hand wash their pride an joy .Im paranoid that I will scratch my own car when I do it so letting some kid who doesnt really care for yours is asking for trouble

To get the worst off I have found the Sainsbury jetwash to be actually prestty good. Provided you get the hot brush option, it works well, and you can give the brush a blast with the jet to make sure it's clean.
Good enough to make a quick wash at home nice and easy.

Go there on a Saturday morning and the queues are on to the road. The waiting room has pics of Ferrari's, Mercs etc all being cleaned but at the end of the day you are putting your trust in a few blokes who don't particulary want to be washing cars for a living and couldn't care less about making sure the sponge is free of small stones before washing your car.
Can't say I blame them really, poor buggers cleaning cars all day long and getting spoken to like they are the scum of the earth by some tosser in his brand new M3, I'm sure many of us in their situation wouldn't care to much about what sponge we used.
DIY is by far the best option.

He might leave more than just swirl marks all over her!!!
In over 40 years of car ownership (no, not the same one!) I,ve never used any kind of car wash other than me, a sponge, brush, lots of water with good quality car shampoo and leather or (currently) Meguires drying towel. I actually find washing the car therapeutic!! I would not trust anyone else to do it, just like I don't trust garage mechanics - borne out of all those years of experience I'm afraid.

it just looks like there really good as it always looks busy
we can wash 90 cars an hour at our place when the track is on its fastest setting, so we could do loads and it would look dead!
i wash mine with warm water and a bucket and sponge/preasure wash/leather off. whats cold hands, when you know you have done a good job on YOUR pride and joy?

What I meant was, "If you pay peanuts, you get monkeys"
If someone were to pay me what I earn now for working in a hand car wash I'd be more than happy to swap jobs and I'd do a bloody good job at it as well.
But if they only offered me £3per hr I'd not be that motivated...

Well ok then paper boys get paid ****e but you would still expect it to be shoved through your letter box every morning, be pi**ed if they just dropped it on the pave ment. If you want the job you should do the job nobody beat them over the head with a big stick and said wash cars or else
