From what I remember my MY00 had heated mirrors..connected to the rear de-mister so came on automatically when the button was pushed. Can't remember whether it was also on my MY98

it seemed to be fitted as standard after they face lifted the impreza from the classic model but no one has them on the classic even tho the wiring and relay space is fitted on the wiring loom, strange?
