Question TRUE COST OF TYRES

I run quite a large workshop in south london,i often look on here about tyre debates & prices.I sell tyres & wonder how many of you know the true price tyre dealers are actually paying. There is basically a minimum of 50%mark up on the price. So just a suggestion if you haggle hard but nicely most outlets will come down in price, tyres are one of the best earners in the motor trade

For my sins, I work for Jaguar Halewood.

Our purchaser once told me what the company was charged for each tyre, I was amazed.

But when you think he buys 1280 of these tyres each weekday, you realise that £11.00 per tyre is quite steep.....

I know someone who asked a relative to get him 4 tyres from the Pirelli factory in Carlisle. The relative quoted him a price of £50. OK, he thinks, £50 a tyre isn't bad i'm saving money. A few weeks later his relative phones him and says "Sorry, the price has gone up to £60". Well, the guy still thinks hes saving money and says "Thats OK, £60 each is fine". "Oh no" says his relative "thats £60 for four"!!!!

Its like Subaru parts. There is around 70% profit included in the prices we pay.

it's not steep at all even if he buys 1280 each week as that price is probably cost or less, car manufacturers often get them at a good price due to the fact of the spin-off for the tyre manufacturer who supplies the O.E tyre, when they are worn out 'MR NORM' will often ask for the same tyre thats on the car and that is where the O.E supplier makes his money back.out one pocket in the other
