Still no sign of the Europe wide "insurance disc" though, which would enable ANYONE to see at a galnce and grass up those without............infact I'd spend some of my time walking round our town writing down numbers

Why don't they offer £5 to anyone who finds one? Then fine them £105, with 35 to the finder and £100 to the treasury.

Agree with you on the insurance disc alcazar but the fine needs to be a lot more than £105, don't know about anyone else but my motor insurance costs far in excess of £105 so risking it and having none would prob still be worthwhile to some of the tw@ts who currently don't bother! Bigger fine would also allow bigger reward for reporting them!

Quite regularly read in local press of uninsured drivers who have been caught or crashed into someone being fined £150 and getting three points while the properly insured person looses their no claims bonus etc....

Just my 2p worth!!

Yep agree £100 fine is a joke really, make the Minumun fine £1000 that would be more than most peeps premium using there Car as Collateral and a Crusher

What happens if you keep your car off the road for some reason and do not need to insure it? More forms and red tape?

What a load of carp! So if you're restoring an older vehicle and the engines out, the bodyshell is being resprayed and the suspension is at the powder coaters then you have to insure it 3rd party? Rubbish.

Once again, the only people that will suffer are those that are law abiding. Genuinely forget to reinsure? You'll get a fine. Car off the road? Loads of red tape to go through. Intent on driving without insurance? Register your car to a bogus address and away you go!

If you read the document, having a SORN makes it exempt.

I have read the document, thank you. I have also twice had problems with the DVLA with regard to vehicles covered by SORN and luckily both times was able to prove I had declared my vehicle off road. I therefore hold the DVLA in low regard when it comes to stuff like this.

I stand by my previous comments. It will only catch out law abiding people, it won't target those intent on driving without insurance.

I always thought the SORN was for road tax, not insurance.
I have had a mini off the road for 4 years.

I can't really see a problem there mate, as legally, if you car is off the road and isn't taxed, you have to declare it with the DVLA - SORN statutory Off Road Notice.

Insurance disks are a good idea, but why can't the government scrap tax disks, they tax fuel heavily enough
