Unhappy WHAT?? Is this right?

Had my Impreza serviced at the main dealer in Highworth, Swindon.

Been there lots, bought the car there too.

I have the nearside rear tyre wearing on the outer edge, asked them to just check the wheel bearing. Now, how I do it is simply grasp the top and bottom and rock the wheel ............. whats Subarus finest way of telling?

Lift it up on the 4 poster, engage gear and race the engine whilst a mechanic listens by the wheel in question !!!! surely this can't be right??

I also mentioned that the rear wash/wipe, when used, was squirting water into the roof of the hatch .............. I had found where the pipe was split and showed them it. No need to remove any trim, as its easily seen inside the rubber gaiter that runs from the car to the tailgate .... simply a T piece needed, could they please sort it?

Same monkey who ran the car on the 4-poster started ripping all the roof trim and side trim off the car Fine I thought, he knows what he's doing - WRONG!!!!

They handed the car back to me with the roof lining hanging down, the trim had all the lugs snapped off, misaligned trim on the side panel ..... and, worse, THEY WERE GOING TO LET ME DRIVE AWAY WITHOUT TELLING ME!!

Now thats NOT on! They have ordered some new trim - but, I travel over 85 miles to have my car serviced at this place .......... I will have to go back to have the trim re-fitted, I reckon they should pay my petrol or post the piece so I can instal it?? Its a simple job if the parts are correct.

Just thought I would blow off - been pi55ed off about this for a few days now, needed to get it out in the open!

Anyone else noticed a downturn in the customer service at the said dealer, you'll know who it is if you use them!!

Pete

Pete,

I have bought 2 subaru's from said dealer in Highworth - so far everything has been okay with the services I have had. The sales guy there has been very helpful - you may want to get onto him, if the service side is letting you down.

What Subaru model did you buy from them ?

I've been a regular customer of said dealership for the last couple of years and have always experienced good service, both by the sales guys and service team. Suggest you speak to Peter Jenkins the dealership director if you're not happy.

Its a MY00 Wagon, bought in May 2000 from them, brand new.

Sales team was great at Highwaorth - the services were carried out nearer my home for 3 years until Mill lane Engineering lost their franchise.

Then I drive 85 miles to said dealer to be serviced ever since - 6 monthly intervals too!! All was well until this last service

Also, the apprentice was servicing the car - yet, they STILL charge £71 an hour!! I know they have to learn somehow and the apprentice was absolutely ok (you can watch through a window) ......... its the 30'ish year old monkey that was the problem! Clearly trying to show-off to the apprentice

The elder mechanic came out to me and sorted it - he was great, good old fashioned service!

Pete,
By the time you can detect play in the wheel bearing by rocking the wheel as you describe it will most likely be ready for catastrophic failure.

With the 4 wheel drive system it isn't possible to 'spin' the suspect wheel/bearing to detect roughness/rumble within the bearing, so other than physically strip the bearing from the hub, the 4 wheel post and driving the wheels with the engine is the the most reliable method.

When I had mine checked mine, I sat in the car on the 4 post lift, driving with the roadwheels going at a fair rate of knots, and my hero mechanic gets hold of each strut in turn , to 'feel' for bearing rumble.

It looks a bit dangerous, but is really the simplest and most accurate method.

Cheers
MTR

Doesnt sound like the sort of service you'd expect to get from a main dealer - might be best to look for an independant Subaru garage then the level of care should be a lot higher.

Main dealers look glossy on the outside, then behind the scenes its a bunch of muppet mechanics. Some independant place might not look so good, but chances are the guy running the place has had years of Subaru experience and takes more pride in his work.

Be a lot cheaper too!

Calm down. £71 an hour (?+VAT). I thought you believed in a spot of wealth sharing. And you calling one of the proletariat a "monkey". Tut tut.

Keeping a full SSH is silly, at this stage... far better to find a conscientious "local" specialist.

I have a 5 year warranty and my Impreza is the one everyone will want when its up for sale - 1 owner - FSSH - never thrashed - not modded .....

So I shall keep it up together at whatever it costs, I may have it until the scrapman takes it away!! ..... that would be about 10 years time I guess? Sad day that would be if she's still in my ownership!

At your age is taking out a 5 year warranty a sensible investment?

Pete,
If you're gonna drive to Swindon, you could do worse and drive another few miles to Cirencester (TH White - Main dealer), I take my MY00 there and have done since I purchased 3 years ago (extended warranty also). I'm sure some people on here will have bad words about them but personally I've always found them superb, no bulls**t. It's also a 140 mile round trip for me, which I wouldn't do every six months just for the fun of it !!

As you've been there a lot previously and obviously had decent service with them, why don't you sort it out with them in private instead of dragging their name through the mud on a Subaru forum by crying your eyes out, you appalling waste of molecules.

Just a shame you never communicated with them via a bb, it wouldn't have happened.

It highlights what a bumbling old fárt you really must be outside of SN and not the ninja you think you are.

You allowed that to happen, Píssy Lewis on here wouldn't have.

I don't agree that the only Impreza a person will want at resale will be the one with a full Subaru SH. I think most buyers -and especially enthusiasts- are savy to the fact that you can often get a better quality of service and a beter all round deal at a specialist. If they aren't you can certainly explain to them -in excruciating detail- why you take your car to a particulatr place and that'll shut em up! :-)

Best wishes,
