looking for some info on import MY96 scoob please
guy i know has got himself a 96 WRX and could do with some pointers as to general running/looking after.
i've told him about fuel, servicing times and day to day running things, but to say i'm a bit limited with scooby knowledge would be an understatement!
any info i can pass on/ websites he can look at would be much appreciated.
anything he should be looking out for from the start though with this age import?

Look at the servicing, when last cam belt done. If in doubt get it done.
Use good servicing items, oil, plugs. A good Lead set.
Slowly replacing sensors at general servicing intervals wouldnt do it any harm with car of that age. cam sensor, crank, water temp. May even pay for themselves if one was iffy ; an garage had to do diagnostics on car. Grab a spare MAF sensor an keep hold of it.
Make sure servicing garage dont overfill oil level. That'l do from me. Let someone else put their 5p in the pot.

cheers for that mate
last service was cambelt at scoobyclinic so that should be ok, i take it imports follow the same schedule as uk turbos in relation to cambelt/fluid services?
are the mafs on this age a problem though? i've got a MY99 with the fragile maf, but i thought earlier models were a bit more robust?
keep the advice coming please as he doesn't use the forums too much and this is his first dive into scoobies!!

Yes generally MAFs on them are ok
Is it pre-facelift or post ? end sept96 onwards should be post; if post, the MAF sensor is same as STi4 (its the 280 ps version).
Could look at earthing setup, as its not too brill. A lot of peeps have reported an engine that generally runs better with an earthing mod, older car etc.
Look at front brakes as well, go for a set of 4 pots with appropriate disks, somewhat like yours i expect .
