Im sure a lot of you will know me as a fanatical scooby man, well here is the bad news.
10 weeks ago my P1 went bang while driving up the A34 during rush hour traffic.The car was recovered direct back to my dealer by subaru assist.
The engine was removed and inspected by one of there techs who found all the bearings had failed .
So you all think oil failure no problem ,Wrong
Subaru warrantys services get independant engineer to inspect engine.his report says he found no fault with oil pump,so therefore they have refused to pay the claim.
The managing director of Sparshatts my dealer has backed my claim fully and even offered to pay50%of the claims labour costs, he has now refused to sell subaru warrantys and as a result is in a big dispute with subaru uk.
So be warned if you think you have a bullit proof warranty think again.

That's so wierd, they replaced my engine (less labour) which was out of warranty - but the fault had been there for a long time inside the warranty though. Maybe the decision is made by executive toy and I got lucky?

A mechanic at a dealer said to me recently that he believes that virtually every P1 in existence has had some engine warranty work to some degree. They have stated it wasn't the oil pump, but have they stated what DID actually fail ? Get the press involved. Top Gear and Evo mag may print your story. SUK would hate that, even though this board probably has more readers (but we're already customers ).

The poularity of this car is surely down to the fanaticism of its owners. If they p!ss enough of them off, surely one day they will suffer

And so what did the engineer say had caused the failure?
If you've got a std car and it has been serviced to the letter and maintained then what on earth has voided the warranty?

The car was standard and serviced they will not say what caused damage, it must have been some sort of lub problem, and yes oil level was normal.

Hope you get it sorted, I am sick of hearing stories about warranty's trying to wriggle out of there commitments, they lock you into servicing to keep it covered, body inspections at year 1, 3,and 5 you spend loads with them, and when something goes wrong they won't payout.
Looks like you have a good garage on your side.

Ive read so many about so many problems with warrentys theyre a pain as there always seems to be a bad side to them usually the side which leave us paying £££££'s ive had my P1 awhile now had a clutch warrenty problem and just took it all the way to subaru.uk as dealer was talking rubbish and took it all the way to the top, wish you all the best mate with yours, keep us updated

when i had my p1 it had paint bubbles on the boot and i was told it was down to my driving!!
the inspector drove from england to perth yet refused to talk to me on the phone when dealer asked him,he then said the photos he took were for internal purposes only and could not be used for an independent review

Stoker... IMO, you have got all the laws on your side here. The car is exactly how you bought it from them, you have it serviced by them religiously and you are a well known customer to the Dealership. There is NO way that they can refuse the warranty claim, this will be the outcome when Watchdog contact them, and if it goes that far, then definitely once the program goes live on air.

Im so gutted for you, in case the point wasnt put across ast the top, Barry is Mr Subaru.
I really thought that the dealer getting involved would speed it up, I just cannot see under what reasoning they are witholding?

Sorry to hear that mate. Does it really matter what the cause- as long as it wasn't the result of abuse or neglect by you- there should be no problem in them paying out. I don't see how they can refuse a claim just because oil pump wasn't found to be faulty. You could write to the head of public relations at Subaru and put your case to him. Whatever you do, I would also consider an independent mechanical inspection before you let anyone do any further work on it. That way you have unbiased 3rd party advice on which to base any further action on.

Absolutly gutted... Can't believe they refused 'my car'

Barry is indeed 'Mr Subaru' ..in fact, I don't think I've *ever* seen him without a piece of Subaru clothing on, and there is no way on earth that car was not maintained properly. If you saw Barry's face when he told us all what happened you'd know how gutted he was.

Barry, if there's anything we can do (unlikley I know) then you know where I am (and indeed the rest of the Hants lot) ...it's not the same without you and 'my car' around

If no oil loss, Oil Pump OK and Catastropic bearing failure in many bearings. They should try looking at Filter, Pressure relief valve, Oil way blockage/integrity or loss of Pressure restriction feeds to Oil sprays.

Sorry to hear this

I have had three scooby this being my first P1 i have only had it for 6 month the car was serviced regularly. I was driving on the M45 when I heard a knock noise on my engine, when the engine was removed they found that 1/2 inch had broken off the piston ring.

Only 500 miles left to run the engine in.

Webmaster, i understand your concearn about this thread so here are the facts.
i have owned the car from new, fully serviced by dealer, no engine mods.
\engine has total failure ,gets recovered to local dealer,
.All bearings are wiped and i mean all. so an inspection is done by someone on behalf of SUBARU WARRANTY SERVICES they tell me the oil pump is ok so sorry no claim.
SO i ask how did you test the oil pump got no reply so i then ask what did cause the oil failure, no reply.
so i am now taking legal advice.
