Default Fitting a tow bar to a wrx!

Just wondering if anyone has fitted or had fitted a towbar to a wrx (new-age)? If so how much was it? And is the car suitable enough for towing my trackday car with?

They have a 1200kg max tow eight, so as long as you dont exceed that you should be cool. Saw a guy a while back towing a crosser with his sti!!!!!!!!!!

I tow my 2 seater jetski(400kg) with no problem

I had the Bosal removable towbar fitted by a local mobile chap.

280 quid fitted I think it was.

Cheers for the advice.

Just a quick question scooby L. How does the removeable towbar look when removed? Is it really noticeable?

it's only a 100mm by 80mm black plastic blanking plate that remains...

not really noticable...much less than the whitter and even less than the fixed jobbies.

I do not have any pics of it available sorry

Hope your not thinking of towing a caravan to the lake district are you?

Crossers, track cars, rally cars and jet ski's are sweet, but no more caravans please!!!

Good luck with the towee...and the track!!

Works fine on my new age STi. You can't see the hook mountings when it's detached, nor the electrics when they're retracted behind the bumper. They're standard Subaru fittings.

I've towed everything from furniture, to boxes of books, to aeroplanes. The Scooby laughed at all of them

Just fitted a Subaru towbar to my MY03 yetsreday and the WRSport box knocks a bit using the towbar mounting point. Anyone got a cure?

I towed both an Mi16 and my old clio cup race car behind the MY03 wagon- not at the same time though!

No probs at all. The car's gone now, but I still have the tow bar if you want one cheap- must be able to collect though is it weights about three tonnes!

Just had one fitted to a std MY03 wrx no probs at all. I went for a witter non removeable as my bike rack holder mounts between the backplate and the towing ball.

Local company on the sussex south coast did it, can let you know details if your in this area

Cheers

Here's a picture of mine. It's the Subaru one, but I'm sure I've seen Witter stamped on it somewhere.

The car was fitted with a newage STi back box at the time but now has a Prodrive back box and I don't have any problems with it.

double axle trailer min of 500 kilos, track car needs to be no more then 700 k's in fact they reccomend only towing at 85% of the gross weight so thats more like a car weighing 500 k's. We're towing our track car with a newage wrx this weekend, all up its going to be 300k's over (at least) so will report back if it all ends in tears!!

My clio cup race car was 680kg, and guess the Brian James Minno I used to have at about 400kg, so was within the towing limit for my MY03 wagon. I did thousands of miles without any probs.

Just make sure the engine's at the front of the trailer (surprisingly important if you're towing a 911 race car ), and try to let the axle of the trailer take the weight more than the tow bar. The further forward the weight, the more stable (on the whole), but as I mentioned don't put too much nose weight on the tow bar.

From memory the MY03's are ok to about 1200kg.

My pickup will drag 3 tonnes- I took a Carrera Cup car up to Croft a few weeks back for a friend and didn't even notice it was on

Don't see the problem

Will pick up my new caravan in a couple of weeks and am in the process of looking to get a towbar fitted too.

IT'S JUST A CAR!

Sorry, whats this "we are towing"!! You'll be tucked up in bed while i'm truddling along at 50mph sh*tting my pants!!!! I suppose it makes up for your near death expierence of a caliper falling off and locking the front wheel off on the M1!!!!
