Forester 2.5 XT drive booked
#3
got it sorted with my local dealer in milton keynes (luckily there are two others within about 25 miles of where I live)
I used the website initially but had to phone them back twice to finally get it sorted. I've had the short (1/2 hour or so) test drive with the delaer already but really need to run a few more tests including a longer drive, getting on my driveway and checking the load capacity with all my scuba diving kit. Now all I need to do is find a field to drive across ..... !!!

Glad you got it sorted Andy.
My mate had a go in the 2.5 and couldn't resist it. He said it went like a train, had to buy one and he gets his beginning of December.
Enjoy it!

I ghet the feeling I'm more of less sold on a Forester 2.5 seems to have the best mix of everything I'm looking for:
Basically I'm looking for a car with a fair amount of performance that will carry a decent load, occasionally over some rough-ish terrain (a rather pot-hole ridden gravel track).
My narrowed choices so far are:
Mazda Rx8 - has the performance, the boot is pretty good for a coupe but only has limited ground clearance
Vauxhall Signum 3.2 V6 - performance again, good boot, limited ground clearance again but I would get a minimum of 15% off list
Nissan X-trail 2.2 T-spec- good space, capable 4x4, limited performance 136bhp
Kia Sorrento diesel - pretty much as the x-trail
Hyundia Santa-Fe/Tuscon - cheap
Forester 2.5 XT - performance, all the toys, some off road potential
Would anyone else care to comment?

I test drove the RX8 - fantastic car for the money and well equiped - however the twin rotor engine although a special "feature" was relatively souless - like a fast elecric motor (upto 9,000 rpm!) however very low on torque - a test drive at the same garage (Donalds) in a WRX left me in no doubt that handling and engine was better in the Scooby.
I bought an STI - although if I had known the Forester was about to come out would have definately had a long look.
Saw a RX8 extreme concept car in the press a few weeks ago - turbo twin rotor with 360 BHP now thats more like it?
