Was driving into Milton Keynes this morning on one of the many dual carriageways. Came up behind a small group of 5 escorts, couple of convertibles, couple of XR3i's and a white RS Turbo in the middle, all driven by quite young lads.
They were cruising at 50mph on a national speed limit road. I passed them, and as I did, the RS Turbo pulled out right behind me. Not one to bite easily under normal circumstances, I thought, 'what the hell,' and floored it. I did pull away from him, but not by a great deal.
When we reached some 'unspecified speed,' I heard this huge loud bang behind me.
I looked in my mirrors only to see the RS Turbo with huge plumes of white smoke billowing from the rear. I was now approaching a roundabout and we went seperate directions. I looked in my mirror again and he was still driving quite fast round the roundabout, with the smoke still pouring out his exhaust. He didn't seem too bothered.
I'll be the first to admit I know very little about engines, so I don't know what caused it. I admit that I did laugh when I saw it, and I know I might get some stick for laughing at the poor lad, but I couldn't help myself.
Just totally made my day though

You have to laugh !
I've only had my Scoob for 8 days, 500 miles, but I've already had any number of XRs / Novas (!) / Pug/golf GTIs having a go....let them come up to my right hand side on a dual carriageway, then said goodbye... what a great feeling !
I'm still trying to be careful about how hard I pull the car, but can't wait to take on a decent motor (no offence to the cars mentioned above).
While on, perhaps some other Scoobie drivers from East Sussex could contact me...I've seen a P1 and 3 STIs in Heathfield this weekend...WHO ARE YOU !

Do you laugh when some poor guy's WRX Sti blows up?
The poor Escort driving probably saw his life savings going up in smoke, and you laugh.
I guess it's the same old attitude towards younger drivers...it's OK for Scooby owners to Max their cars and drive like idiots, but if some guy in an Escort or Nova does it they are pratts.
Was at a gather of assorted Escort, Novas, Cosworths last night in Windsor. Very busy, but quiet night with no silly driving etc etc.
P1 turns up (W*** UJH, you know who you are), trying to look good. Proceeds to demonstrate how quick the car will go, right in front of the police.
Now who are they boy racers?
Regards

P.S. Several people reported flecks of light blue paint on their bonnets and windscreens.

C'mon!
If you're going to race on the public road, you deserve everything you get! - including a blown engine.
I'm sure the "traffic light challenge" is an experience we've all endured.
I regularly find myself being challenged by GTIs, sooped up Novas, Astras, Escorts etc.
while driving the scoob.
The pleasure is in smugly letting these lads disappear off in a cloud of smoke, leaving a lot of unneccesary burnt rubber on the road while I do my best "Driving Miss Daisy" impression.
- YOU KNOW I COULD IF I WANTED TO, BUT TODAY I'M TAKING IT SLOW AND EASY.....

Guess you might have seen me in Heathfield this weekend as my girlfriend's parents live near there. I've got a grey STi5 - WRC numberplate. I saw a sonic blue WRX down by lovely Dillons (WRX reg). Wasn't you was it?
Bit naughty posting this sort of stuff but hey - Scoobynet's back!!!

As an ex-RS Turbo owner and now scooby driver reading that
story brought back some bad memories.
3 gearboxes,2 clutches,6 starter motors,2 rebuilds,3 turbos!!
all in one year of ownership.Thankfully the scoobys still in one
piece,so far.
