Laugh....I thought my pants would never dry!!!

Just bought this months REVS magazine, as there is a feature on a 375bhp Impreza!

Is the owner on this board, cause I would love for him to explain how his tuner managed to get 375bhp out of a Scooby, with ONLY 1.6 bar??????????? Oh and all this on a 95 octane map!!!!!

Must of used Mr Magoooos rolling road facilities.....or was it a case of number punching on a calculator!

Shaun.

I thought exactly the samething myself, there has been a few others as well in a couple of other magazines claiming +300bhp.

I thought the Alloy block could only take so much!!!!

"she canna take much more captain, she's gonna blow"

Maybe it was a typo - 37.5 bhp at each wheel

I might have to buy the mag just for a laugh

Cool

It is possible to make a real 300+ bhp on standard sti internals. Even on Shaunn's favourite rolling road.

Remember the WRC is probably making near this sort of power - whatever Prodrive might claim to the contrary

But yes of course I know it does have trick internals.....

Remember that the WRC does this with the mandated 34mm turbo restrictor plate!

yehaaaa kelley, bet your into NASCAR.

The WRC car produces around 340BHP but a stagering 480Lb/ft of torque IMHO.

It is limited on power by a 34mm turbo restictor on its inlet. I just love the sophistication of holley downdraught restrictor plate V8's. Yehaaaaaaa

and yup, i've had a drink or 3 Happy new year

Where did you get 18psi from? I don't have the mag here, but I believe the car acually has two boost settings...12psi and 24psi.
I was initially dubious about the figures myself when I saw the front cover, but when you look at the mods he's got those figures can't be far wrong. Then again, he has spent some £30,000 on mods in total!!!!!
He doesn't have the Scoobysport Brembo conversion, but has the yellow Brembo calipers (GGR?), and the work was also done by an outfit near Bicester that I have never seen mentioned on here, which probably indicates he doesn't post on this bbs.
He uses Green Stuff pads so he clearly isn't a track day regular!
Either way, it's a nice car. I may get Revs to contact him so we can invite him to a rolling road day to see how accurate those figures really are.

Shaun you Wobbling Loggermuffin!
OK I misread you!
Does it actually say he's had the Motech mapped for 95 ron as well? I can't remember. I'd like to know how they got those figures though, as there isn't a 4wd rolling road there. Perhaps they are actually engine dyno figures, in which case you'd all be eating your hats.

Question

I had a look at that article yesterday and it said in the specs column the turbo could run up to 2.2 bar. Would give anything like the power quoted or blow things up!?

The turbo MIGHT.....but the engine would'nt (handle it, that is!!!).

Paul.
I think it's just the other Brembo kit available from places like GGR or PE that use a yellow Alfa caliper.

Shaun.
(edited 'cos I'm a logger! )
I'm sure the engine he's got could take the power. Haven't you seen what's inside?

Stef,

What's the problem? 1.6 bar is 24psi, 2.2 bar is 32psi. 1 bar = 14.7 psi.

2.2 x 14.8 = 32 (or actually 32.56 before Sunlip tells us it to 12 decimal places.....)

Dave,

I figured that anyway. Also, doesn't matter how many decimal places sunlip gives us -- the accuracy of the answer is limited by the accuracy of the input variables. In this case, one of them is only one decimal place (2.2 bar) so giving any result with more than one decimal place is meaningless

14.7 x 2.2 = 32.3 psi to one decimal place.

I thank you.

Stef,

You human log eater!!!!

Should of told me you were that thick.....I would of bought you a calculator for christmas, if I had known!!!!!

Like I said 32psi is a mega amount of boost!!!! I would love to see a Scooby engine run that for more than 2.2 miles!!!!

£30,000 aint much Stef, when you start to uprate diffs and the rest of the tranmission (which he would defo. need for that kind of power, based on standard scooby tranny cack!)

I think that some of you should read the article again.

The figures are certainly attainable with the mods the guy has had done.

If you take into account the figures that both Anders, and Nicky G got, running MUCH less boost (for the bhp figures) this guy's figures seem very realistic.

If some of you guys new what figures were "actually" being got from these engines, you'd be very surprised.

Mark.

Bloody psi! Who cares?
I'm just saying that the engine has clearly been built using decent components and the boost is high enough to give those figures, so they may not be far wrong.
How long it lasts is another matter, but if he's got any sense he'll save the high boost switch for.......special occasions.

Stef.
