Police are out in force agian today at Red Hill in Nottingham, thay have Tax disc cameras as you go in and are pulling people 100 yards or so down the road.
Saw about half a dozen cars clamped down there today....

They tend to be ANPR vans which will flag up all sorts of things...not just road tax.

They do this all the time in West Brom! Lots of police chases.....I hope they also check insurance as well, for everyone's sake.

Is this REALLY what we want the police doing?

I understand where people are coming from, as regards untaxed prob. means uninsured etc etc, but I'd FAR rather my tax was spent on police catching, detecting, and deterring burglars, rapists, muggers, robbers, thugs, thieves, murderers, etc etc, than collecting tax for HM government.

Sorry, but this just goes to reinforce my view of the police at present: bullies, enforcers and tax gatherers for the government. NOT what we need

We have the ANPR van parked up regularly on the road near my works. And it's true they catch more than just tax dodgers. There was one time when a drug dealer got stopped and tried to do a runner. Luckily we caught him on our CCTV camera legging it and trying to get rid of loads of little packets of controlled substances !

To point out the obvious: criminals are much more likely to be driving un-taxed vehicles - which actually makes it a bl**dy good way of catching crims.

The were doing the same in Cambridge city centre a couple of weeks ago, filming then stopping and clamping. My wife said it was causing traffic chaos.

Precisely. With Human Rights being such an issue what better way to hit the criminal than by taking his car away. The courts have the powers to sentence criminals, this takes months and makes solicitors rich. Take their car and crush it......lovely
