All classic STi's are jap imports, depending on your age id get a quote from your insurance co, they dont seem to like under 30's on JDM cars anymore.....

Oh i should point out that JDM cars need to be run on super unleaded/optimax AND octane booster (unless you want an expensive bill for an engine )

Uk cars will run fine on unleaded, they will run better on super unleaded/optimax, there will be no need for octane booster though (unless quite modified).
Benefits of running 97/98 ron fuel over 95 ron on a uk car:-

Smoother running
Better fuel economy
Slightly more power
Better pickup

Cons of running 97/98:-

Nil as the extra MPG evens it out to virtually the same price

That's what I thought (unleaded wise) but my new STI clearly has "unleaded 98RON fuel only" stamped on the filler cap - which is causing some confusion at the dealers.

My old MY00 stated super unleaded only or words to that effect.
The subaru uk website normally has the fuel grade the cars need to run on, it doesnt state anything on the MY05 STi but has 97 ron on the WR1 page (as per any PPP'd car they state 97+ ron fuel).
Personally id always run my car on super unleaded/optimax (as i did with my MY00 from day one) but its down to the owner in the end (plus the handbook should also state what fuel is used).
The benefits of using super/optimax outweigh the use of unleaded in a performance car anyway, and whats the point buying a 25k car and running it on the lowest grade fuel?

Thanks for clearing that up for me.

Good old IM. The WR1 fuel flap has the same info on it as the new STi, 98 RON only!
