Thumbs up I want Launch Control

Just read an article, in Automobile (US) mag, about the new BMW M5 (V10 500bhp)
which comes complete with LAUNCH CONTROL , F1 Styleeeeee

I quote:
'To get into LC Mode, you need to select S for sequencial, dial in the fastest of six shift speeds, deactivate stability control, push the shift lever forward and hold it there. Now floor the throttle, wait until the tach needle hovers over 4,000rpm, release the lever and brace yourself for a stunning launch.
The BMW lifts it's nose, squats on it's haunches, and spins the rear tyres in a relatively controlled mix of grip and blue-gray smoke.
Before you can breath out the computer whips into 2nd gear at 8250rpm, then 3rd, 4th, 5th, 6th and 7th. That's right 7th. This is the first car to have a sequential manual transmission with 7 forward ratios.
About two thirds down the airstrip, the M5 closes down at an indicated
168 mph'

I want, I want. Can you imagine hanging on with the computer doing everything except steer

When will a Scoob have LC??

You can put LC on any number of aftermarket computers m8. I can intro you to a gent who can really set your car alight in performance terms - LC and all if you want

Comes on several Beemers I guess as the Z4 SMG has it too, just a bit less advanced than that on the M5.

Edit - If you had it on a Scoob it could probably be realistically labelled "Self Destruct"

Sounds exciting, if not a little scary
Will the future results of the 'blast away from the lights' depend on who programmed your computer??

How does that work with a manual gearbox then?

Well, even launch control on WRC cars requires the driver to pull the shift lever. If you are talking about auto shift, that is a whole different deal, IMHO.

If full auto is what you are after, the BMW is the way to go.

Launch control works with SMG gearbox's (sequential manual gearbox), it's not new on BMW'S the E46 M3 also has this feature, but I think it is buried in the handbook under something like acceleration assist, each assisted start is logged and after about 6-8 starts the clutch is smoked.
From experience though it is an awsome feeling, and you need to be on a bit of long straight road.

Isn't the BMW warranty invalid after 5 launches?

I wonder if a less destructive version can be chipped into my auto/semi-auto Legacy?

Much more satisfying to do it for yourself though.

So its not limited to 155mph then? Theyre meant to do 205mph max, but I thought they were limited to 155mph.

By the time you've done that the traffic lights would have been on green for quite some time...
