Default PPP noise on WRX??

I am seriously thinking of fitting PPP to my MY01 WRX.

I ran drag pipes on a bike for a few years and the whole loud exhaust thing has worn off on me. I like to hear the stereo ;-)

What subjective increase in noise level can expect over the OE exhaust, especially on the motorway, as I do a lot of motorway miles? Is it intrusive?

I've got the PPP on a 03 wagon and also do a fair few motorway miles. Personnally speaking I find it fine. I must say I bought the car with it on so can't comment on the differences but you only really hear it under acceleration IMHO and then it sounds luverly. I'm not a loud exhaust fan either - always remind me of the boy racer brigade and I'm starting with the grey hair and married with a child so not bothered about joining that set.

I'd try and find a car with one fitted and have a go if you are unsure though - £1500 is a lot of wedge. The dealer getting your money may help.

I'd also check around for insurance before doing it too - all of a sudden your car is "modified" and so it can turn a few insurance co's a bit sour.

Some on here may say that some aftermarket mods are better and cheaper. I wanted to keep the warranty but it might be worth thinking about if your car is either out of warranty or not far off it (unless you are planning to extend the warranty).

Hope that helps.

Personally I don't find it intrusive at all, it just makes it sound more like it should do (relative to a classic). I also spend a lot of time on the motorway, and have never had a problem. Performance increase is vastly more significant than that in volume. Go for it!

PPP sounds just about right to me. Louder burble, but certainly not intrusive like a 5" HKS jobby and not too loud at motorway speeds

If you are anywhere near Guildford you can have a listen to mine, it's also a MY01 PPP.

I don't have PPP, but do have the prodrive backbox from PPP.

I like the sound a lot. It burbles nicely on low revs, then quietens down at about 2k, then picks up again at about 3.5k.

So motorway cruising is pretty calm, but if you put your foot down it sounds great.

Thanks guys - I appreciate the feedback. I'll probably place the order today (I'm still juggling Xmas finances).
