Impreza 2nd hand prices compared to the Evo
A mate at work is interested in buying a 1999 Evo 6 on a T-plate with under 25k on the clock. Currently cars of this spec go between £14-£16k even more for a Tommi Mac spec. Seems a lot to me, but that is what there worth.
He then started a search for a STi 5/6 and couldn't believe the differences in price, these were about 3 or 4 grand cheaper than the Evo but apparently of a similar spec (age & mileage)
Why is this ??

You really should compare the EVO6 to a STi 5 or 6 Type RA V ltd to get a like for like comparison (I've had both). I'm now looking to buy a scooby or an EVO but the EVO's seem like better second hand value, especially the Evo7 FQ300.
I think the scooby has been playing catch up for a long time and has now got there with the latest ones and Spec c but they are expensive.

These cars are all frail as each other. hoe long would the internals last on any car running that high? My evo's diff needed changing after 10k miles, brake disks went oval... It really peeves me when Evo owners go on about how fragile a scooby is, well, just have a talk to some of them about running costs.
So what Scooby for £20k ish...

There aren't as many evo's about. As far as I know, Mitsubishi's production of evo's is rather like a limited run, they produce a set number per year and once they are made move production on to another marque. Subaru, on the other hand, have a production line for Imprezas which churns them out all year round. In comparison to evo's there's a bigger supply of Imprezas in the marketplace and a lot more to choose from, this is reflected in the lower market value.

They hold thier value a lot better because for every 1 Evo, there is 200 Impreza's & the Evo 5/6/6.5 was in terms of like for like (whatever you read other than Scoobynet) the far better car.
Limited supply, strong engines, 'designer parts' all help with far higher equivalent residuals.
Some suffer badly - most 7's are worth less an a mint Evo 6 TME because from the TME, it all went wrong in terms of what the car was all about (looks wise anyway)
