Question MY03/MY04 - Subaru back to form?

Having had a MY99 that I loved I was stupid enough to change it for a MY01 WRX that I was extremely disappointed with. I'm now considering returning the Subaru fold, probably in a MY03 or MY04 with PPP. The feedback I have seen is that Subaru is back to form with these models, so I was wondering what people who have had the older models reckon to the blobeye version?

My feeling is that with the classic Subaru, they underquoted the power, and are doing that with the new one. The bugeye was if anything overquoted but had the extra lard to shift around . The bugeye I had was more refined and had better handling than the MY99, but even with mods never felt even remotely fast or exciting.

What do peeps think? Obviously gonna drive one but want to set my expectations.

Yeah - I went from a MY99 to an 03WRX. The 03 has a much better build quality but it suffers with the extra weight so it definitely needs PPP to get it back to 99-like performance.

WRX spring kit is also highly recommended.

I went from an MY00 (DP+BB mods) to an MY05 wagon.

Still running it in but there is no doubt in my mind which one is the better car .. and it's not the classic. Feels quicker up to 4K (may be variable valve timing stuff?) and handles much much better (flatter, more grip). Interior wise there is no contest the new one is a completely different class

It feels a bit different as it's very quiet but looking at the speedo it doesn't lose much to the MY00 in straight line speed.

Big improvement over the bug-eye

I'm happy.
