Servicing and entended warranty? Mail dealer want £620.28
Car is due for a 60,000 mile service including cambelt change so I phoned subaru warranty and they said I MUST have it service at a mail dealer cuz its an extended warranty.
Subaru want £620.28 inc VAT
scooby specialist want £325 inc VAT
I just over one year left of my warranty do I take my chances and save £300 and loose the warranty or just bend over and take it like a man?
I was under th impression I could get it done at a VAT reg garage using OEM parts.

I think the Eu thing only applies to a new car warranty first year etc.. after that its an agreement between you and the manufactuer, so no joy nabout using oem parts ... surely a post in dealer and 3rd part forum would maybe reduce that price from a stealer?!?!

Ray,
Pop up north a little, have a days shopping in Stockport and put your car in at ProSport, they will charge you considerably less than that main dealer and they are subaru uk authorised too

just phone another one in Brum. £686.22
I would expect them all to be the same price.
Really want to keep the warranty but saving £300 has really got me thinking. Whats an expensive job that the warranty will pay out?

ray the 99/00 cars are suseptical to MAF failure. this leans the mixture out with leads to detination (pinking) which then buggers your main bearings. there have been a number of main bearing failures on here that have been traced to a faulty maf - e.g. Puff the Magic Moderator.
this will cost you the best part of 4k (at a guess) at a dealers.

Ray,
just double checking that you have an unlimited mileage extended warranty - otherwise i think that it only applies to to 60,000 miles. I have just extended mine, and the unlimited was almost twice the price of the 60K version!

My STi cost that and I would cry if my service cost anywhere near that. Thats just stupid. Know the Mac F1 was ~15K for a service but you would expect that on a 700K car.

Ray,
so if you are going in for your 60,000 mile service, and your extended warranty does not apply when your mileage exceeds 60,000 miles, then why are Subaru insisting that you get it serviced at an "official garage"?
Now if they were to honour your warranty for a further year - then it would probably be worth it

Ray,
aha! I see where you are coming from now
Which dealer(s) have you tried?
Cutlers (now in Aldridge) are very reasonable pricewise, and do the SIDC discount (so it is worth joining just for the savings!).

Life is going sweet but not much luck since Iv had a scooby. Got rear ended after a month of ownership. had it repaired and for rear ended again. 2 months later still waiting for insurance to sort out the second one but its not looking good.
Where have you been?
Got a MY00 and they changed it to the later mileage for the cambelt. What a bummer. WOuld have had it done b4 I had it if they didnt change it.

Good good.. I've seen that you hadnt been having a great deal of joy .. I have been really busy at work and have only been on here in an observational capacity..
I always have my work done at Carstins in Balsall common on the outskirts of Coventry.. They are pretty reasonable and always do a good job on my car.. ( Give it a damn good clean for you as well )
