Default Ok, I cant resist, back to scoobydom I come

Hi folks,

As some of you may know, I recently sold my 92 WRX. I bitched about the fuel consumption etc but hell, Im addicted. Seriously.

So I went to the local "sports" dealer and they have a 53 plate STI with PPP and a verified 11,000 (including roadside assistance and outstanding warrenty) on the clock for a bargained down price of 16,500. So my question, does this represent reasonable value for money?

sounds a bit too good to be true?

Sounds suspiciously cheap actually - I looked at 1yr old STI/PPP cars a few months back and the going rate at a main dealer was £22k. Private sales weren't much cheaper.

I think you'd do well to try and establish why the car is so cheap. Make sure it's not been a write-off at least, or in any other serious accident. It may well be a Euro import but that's no reason to avoid it. If it checks out OK (an HPI check is a must, maybe an AA/RAC inspection too) then bite the seller's arm off and enjoy

Very cheap, check it out, ask the dealer if it has been bumped they have to tell you the truth. If its clear rip his hand off.

I take it that all references here are to a BUGEYE 03 reg not later BLOB?!

That sounds way too cheap - a quick search on autotrader will tell you that. I'm currently staring down the barrel of 23k for the same car (8k on the clock PPP and the prodrive alloys - PF7 i think they're called). Granted that is a main dealer price and I haven't haggled yet, but its still 29k worth when bought new and I dont expect to get it for less than 21k.

speculative price - private for £18.5 after haggling? - £20k Dealer, with 18" + PPP IMHO

Huge variance between speculative / naive (sp?) prices for scoobs and true market values - just get quotes from Dealers as to how much they would buy same car for (allow for exageration prior to payment..)
