Apologies if this has been done before, but the bonnet vents on my 98S Impreza Turbo don't seen to do any venting. All I can see is a small drain hole. Are they there for hotter climes/rallies?

you can remove the backing plates to open up the vents (just watch for water ingress if it is going to rain)

Having experienced pretty high air temperatures and long queues (Le Mans 2003), when the coolant temperature stayed rock steady, it would seem that the vents aren't necessary. I haven't done any track days - maybe that's when opening up the vents would be useful(?) Just wondered why they are there - as they don't seem to be necessary for ordinary road use. Can't believe it's anything to do with homologation. Is it about looks? :-)

the vents are purely asthetic(?) mate. probably only there so the rally cars of that age could have some sort of vent to aid cooling?

as said though, you can take the backing off, but the passenger side vent is over the battery, so best not to let this get pissed on

Many people use the driver side vent to ram air into an induction kit.

chances are the dealers will send to are on to one of these chaps and bill you extra for it.

Hmmm, but vents should be placed at a position of low pressure - to suck the air out - so using a vent to feed the air intake is a bad idea!
