Bonnet vents

Bonnet vents
Apologies if this has been done before, but the bonnet vents on my 98S Impreza Turbo don't seen to do any venting. All I can see is a small drain hole. Are they there for hotter climes/rallies?

the vents are purely asthetic(?) mate. probably only there so the rally cars of that age could have some sort of vent to aid cooling?
as said though, you can take the backing off, but the passenger side vent is over the battery, so best not to let this get pissed on
