30k to spend - what on?

30k to spend - what on?
I've been looking at scoobies for a while and initially fancied an STI (would now be an MY05), but it looks like they need PPP to be useful. This seems to render them uninsurable in my experience (under 30 so L&V out).
The WR1 is no problem to insure, but I've heard the service interval is a paltry 5k - can anyone confirm this?
The other option is a JDM car but I'm worried about:
a) insurance
b) resale
c) lack of warranty
Am I right to be?
Any advice would be appreciated.

Maybe look at the type 25, you might just squeeze one into your budget.. I got min for 31k. You need ppp on your sti if you decide on that option. If i was you if you are thinking of the wr1, i would wait for the new sti as it has most of the features of the wr1 but at a much lower cost.. then gives you a few grand to play around with remaps etc..
have fun.

The WR1 service interval is 5000 miles but it is just and oil and filter service which should cost £80-110, depending on where you go. I wouldn't let that put you off as a lot of people change the oil in their cars at that point anyway.
If you have any questions about the WR1's you can ask on here

The type 25 is interesting, but how easy are they to insure, and when the time comes, sell it on?
Cheers

Never had a problem on the WR1, the cheapest quote i had was £1300.
No one has ever answered the question on resales, which may indicate something!

Why buy a 30k scoob ?
There are plenty of nice cars below this price,
Beens as you hav'nt had one before you may not like it ?
Also if i had 30k to spend on a car the other things should'nt be worrying,Theres people paying thousands for insurance and you will defo loose on a scoob

Mr`s service issues are far greater than any Subaru.
£250ish every 4500 miles.
Nice interior well seats anyway on the 340 if you go for the leather and alcantara trim.
**** dash and a little soulless to me but a great car nonetheless.
I have a WR1 coming and was in the same boat.
Type 25 too modded and not a good re-sale proposition for me.
Cast iron IM warranty every time for me.

If your serious about getting a scooby then buy a WR1 great value for money with everything considered and the re sale will be better than a ppp sti despite what pepole on here will try to tell you,oh and youve got 3 yrs warranty to play with and plenty of power need i go on

Thanks for the responses so far:
In response to various points:
Yeh I like the evo but as pointed out - the service intervals are a comedy (or should I say tragedy) and I dont have a local dealer.
I'm not overly keen on modding, because the insurance is a nightmare. Ok everyone seems to be with L&V but I've got a feeling that particular party might be coming to an end (just my feeling from reading the various threads that have started popping up)
I would consider other cars, but the only ones I've come up with are:
350z - relativley expensive by the time its specced, dont particulaly like the look of it
Evo - servicing is a killer (ok with the 260 its free, but its the 260....)
M3 - It would have to be a bit too second-hand for my budget, plus I just dont like the image
How can you not be worried about the resale value???? Just because I've got 30k to spend on a car doesn't mean I don't care what I get back!

Certainly better than any Import and should be better than a market flooded with same old same old STI`s.
It`ll cost you WR1 money to get an STI as good as a WR1.
Just gotta like the colour I guess.
I hated it when it first came out but once I saw it in the flesh it grew on me and now I like it cos I`m fed up with the Wr blue bit really.
Horses for courses and each to their own of course.

you thought about a boxster s ?.
or theres a jdm silver sti for 23k on here in the for sale section looks a bargain, with wheels and nice mods and stereo. Leaves plenty of cash for insurance and enough for a rainy day, that way someone else has had the big depreciation hit.

If you shop around you can get a 05 sti with PPP for alot less than has been mentiond don here.. i was quoted £26.5 with ppp.
As for insurance i am currenbtly with admiral for my sti7 but the type 25 will be insured with adrian flux as they are more accomodating of serious mods.. I am 29 with 8 years NCB, clean licence (just had 6 points go) and the insurance quote i have for the type 25 is £1200 which i am happy with as it is such a specialist car. I am paying around 850 at the moment for the sti7.
good luck to you all anyway..

Sorry J, but even if you get a decent discount on the STi/PPP, and do a similar deal on the wheels, you're still looking at £28k minimum, and that's with less power, no DCCD-A and no driving lamps.
As far as I can see, the WR1 is really the first special that could be termed good value for money.

Next week I pick up my MY05 JDM STI - 300bhp on Powerstation's rollers with just a UK fuel map, plus the torque picks up very early thanks to the twin scroll turbo.
Being an '05 car you also get the Spec C suspension geometry, G sensor for the DCCD-A system, updated interior, better soundproofing, underbody aero work, and because it's a Japanese model you also get electric folding mirrors, HID lights, upgraded engine and rear wiper.
For a list price (at Litchfields) of £27k, that's a lot of extra kit - kit which personally I'd rather have than the driving lights and wheels you get on the WR1. Frankly the WR1's colour doesn't do anything for me either.
Warranty isn't as good I'll agree. Insurance is no problem, I went with A-Plan's dedicated import insurance arm. As for resale, only time will tell, but you never buy a new car if you'll then worry about how much it's lost. I kept my old scooby 4 1/2 yrs and plan to keep this one at least that long, so it's really not much of a concern.
My advice? Phone Litchfields and ask about the Type 20 - it could be right up your alley...
