Default Model Report for a Type-R

Hi, a friend of mine has imported a STi version 6, year 2000 scooby. But there is no model report he can get his hands on, is there any one with a scooby who had a model report done or could assist?

Cheers in Advance.

I might be wrong but I don't think there is a model report for the 2000 STi yet. If you have a look at www.neweraimports.com and click on their FAQ they say they have supplied one for a model report but doesn't say if it's actually available yet?

none exists for the 2 door.

this sort of thing would have been better researched before importing.

I think this is the reason why they cannot bring anymore Type r's into the country at present?

Contact the Ministry; there's no other way of KNOWING whether a comparison test is available.

GC - so if there was a similar model that had a model report, does the ministry assume they have similar specs and give you the model report?

No; to explain what I meant its easier if I explain how it all works. When a person pays to have the necessary comparison tests done, the data is sent to the Ministry who compile a 'model report': this includes all of the required information, set out in an approved format. When you, or a person that you have hired the report to, use it during an E-SVA test you dont turn up with a copy of the report; it never leaves the Ministry; assuming its hired, as most are, you have a letter of authorisation allowing you to use the report on that one occasion.

This was the reason that I said contact the Ministry; when your report is created you will indicate whether you wish to hire it out or not. If you have the only report for MY 05 STI's you might want to keep it to yourself as this will give you a market advantage; on the other hand, an old Type R model report is likely to be available for hire as you may well make more out of the report than you will out of the cars.

Ah i see, i think we crossed wrong paths somewhere. I thought if the ministry has somebody elses report then they could tell you that the report is available. However im under the impression that there is no model report for the type r sti version 6, so would that mean he would have to get some independant report made?

www.modelreports.com

yes it would need reports on emmisions and somthing else i cant remember off hand
would cost about 3-15k to model report it
it has to be 100% standard
plus extra cats will most likely be required
but once model reported you can hire out the documents
basically you got big problems
brake it for spares and buy a evo 6 gsr or gsr tommi makinen instead

IF the Ministry has a report that the owner is willing to hire then they will be able to tell you, the ONLY way to know is to ask them. Youd be extremely foolish to accept that there isnt one available just because 'people' on Scoobynet told you so, after all, many of them have no idea at all what they are talking about.

Its likely that there isnt one though so you have two options; wait until its ten years old and MOT & register it or..... bite the bullet and and pay for your own comparison test. This shouldnt be too difficult as the coupe and the saloon are not really that different; when you have your test you will probably find that it becomes quite popular at £300 per rental.

They were all imported before the regulations changed.

More than likely they were registered before model reports were necessary.

It's just a question of economics nowadays whether it's worth having the report produced for the number of people who will want to use it. There were never that many STI VI's on the roads anyway, so I suspect most people looking to import will be quite happy to bring over a slightly different version instead for which a report is available.

Up until this April there was a loophole in the E-SVA regulations; if a car was declared as being 'modified for disabled use' (had a steering aid on the steering wheel...), then it only needed to take a simple SVA test that didnt involve the use of a model report. At one time all of those Type R's were modified for disabled use.....
