Mine's an auto too
I drive a Jap spec WRX auto wagon of 95 vintage. I think it's brill to drive, you can drive it like an auto or use the gears like a manual.
Try doing a standing start in 1st gear then change up to 2nd when you feel sorry for the engine and so on through the gears...it's pretty damn quick.
It's a real buzz when you are doing 70 on the motorway and kick down the throttle to pass someone, 4th gear comes back in at about 100 and the car just keeps on going faster and faster.
The auto comes into its own when in traffic queues, I wont have a dead clutch leg when I go to the Blackpool Big One !!
