I've had two Scoobs, A my/52 bugeye, and a my/00 classic PPP. I didn't find the my/52 (which I bought new) was anything special at all. It felt slow, and the low down grunt was non existant! The my/00 was very special with the PPP giving it far more urge throughout the range, but was too nice to thrash, and just didn't do it for me. I now have an Evo V and it's what I always thought the Scoob would be. Pickup is spectacular, there's grunt in any gear from almost any revs, the handling is in a league of it's own, with the AYC. Downside is, they drink optimax more than the Scoob! It cost £100.00 more to insure, and it needs to be serviced every 3500 miles. Am I glad I got it OH YES!!!! would I have another Scoob.......................Yes but it would definitley have to be a JDM.

I'm looking at a 93 WRX tomorrow and also an EVO3.
Don't know which I'll go for yet as like them both, it will depend on mix of performance and how nice the interiors are, either way I want to test them both

With ~260bhp/ton it would have to be a well modified EVO to draw me away

I love Evos too. Have driven an Evo 6 recently and thought how much better build quality they are than Scoob - but we all know that
Only thing is, power delivery was very smooth. Unlike my Type R. I prefer my own car definately for the looks/noise and power delivery. Handling felt similar although I didn't go too mad. But still wouldn't mind a go in an Evo 6RS or Extreme as I imagine these would be quicker than mine.
Guy at work has an Evo 5 in yellow. Looks well smart although I haven't been for a ride in it yet. I have sat in it and was disappointed with interior. Version 6's are a lot better.

Apart from the newer evo's (7&8), i wouldn't say the build quality is any better than a subaru. My brother's old evo 6 gsr squeeked and rattled far more than my Sti RA v2 (it's as tight as a drum over pot holes and the like). He now has a 7 extreme S which is alot better quaility, and alot faster! (390bhp & 400lb.ft).
The smoothness of the power delivery is amazing, as long as you've got over ~2500rpm it pulls like a train.
The handling of the active yaw cars are outstanding, you can feel the rear diff moving the torque about to stop understeer.
I would say though, the handling of my DCCD equiped car is every bit as good, and alot more involving for the driver.

Each to their own I say but the truth is in the title of the thread - if you had a little more money would you .....
The Evo costs more to start with but give me a well modified classic scoob anyday and for the same money you have a better looking and quicker motor - makes sense to me
