Need some advice........or general comments
Please help me……I have the following dilemma……..
I am looking at part exchanging my car for a newer one, I have seen one that I want and have put a deposit of £500 down on the car (bit much I know). After numerous discussions with the garage that I am hopefully buying the car from, I need to return my car back to standard, this includes the alloys, my current alloys are fine and have decent tyres, the dealer wants me to put standard alloys back on the car with decent tyres, fair enough………I have found a set of alloys that have legal tread on them although they are close to the 1.6mm mark. After talking to the dealer again, they have said that they would not be able to sell the car with the tyres in that condition and would have to put new ones and I would have to pay for them, although they would be at trade price it is still £250 odd quid for tyres I don’t even need!!...
Couple of questions from this:-
1. Do i legally have to do this ? ( there is nothing in the docs that mentions tyres)
2. Where do i stand if the dealer changes the deal and i want my deposit back??
3. Does anyone have a set of MY00 alloys with decent tread that they want to swap for a mars bar or something
…..any thoughts on this ???

cheapest thing to do is get some part worn tyres if the dealers being crappy.
what he could do is deduct a percentage of replacement tyres off the p/x price, i think he's being finniky though as all garages i've dealt with never really bother about the tyres?

Shouldn't think you would have a chance of getting your money back.
The Dealer is not changing the deal, you are trying to!!
You went into the dealership with good tyres to px your car and now are trying to palm him off with just legal tyres.
Robby,if they are going to retail the car the tyres will make a difference to the price.
anything they have to spend comes out of there profit margin .

Did you sign a document containing the "terms" of the trade-in when you paid over the deposit? If not, did the dealer explain the conditions of the deposit?
And is it a main dealer (franchised dealer) or a private garage - if franchised you may have a better chance of successfully "having a word" with the dealership prinicpal.
Also, as an aside - are yo able to just swap the tyres over from your existing alloys onto the new set and then flog your alloys without tyres? - not sure if they're the same size etc.

one other thing is that if i replace the tyres, the dealer wants brand tyres like bridgestone's or pirellis......do they have the right to dictate this ?
