Has anyone on here considered putting a one of Prodrive group N Impreza's on the road as their personal drive? I hear they go for about 80K. Anyone here driven one? care to speculate on how good it would be?

If all someone wanted was a fast road car, going down the Gp N route would suggest that they had much more money than sense!

Exclamation NO!

It would be terrible. You should try driving a full on rally car on the normal road sometime, unless you're going flat out it's horrible - nasty paddle clutch, whiney dog box, clanking diffs, weird maps- especially on cold start when your neighbours would really hate you, hard screeching pads, etc, etc, etc. Oh and it would be slower than a lot of half sorted road scoobs on flowing real world roads - great torque, but revs limited with restrictor and close ratio box.

Don't get me wrong, i'd kill to have one (as a rally car) but they're a world away from a liveable road car

I've driven a Roger Clarke prepared Evo V Group N on track, and I wouldn't want to live with it daily. Spine jarring suspension, aggressive and difficult AP Racing clutch and restricted turbo inlet (easy to remove). Noisy brakes which don't work until hot, noisy to drive due to no interior, very noisy exhaust which would not be suitable on the road by any stretch. IIRC the owner said they were about £40k each in a fortunate swoop on a cancelled order, but you could make a much better daily road car for less £ from a standard car.

A good mate of mine has got an ex ford motorsport rally car. Its an escort cosworth, I think it was used around 97-98 something like that in WRC and was then used as a recki car by Colin McRae, its a nice car the only 2 things I would not be able to live with is the heat in the car and climbing over the cage to get in and out all the time.

Other than that quite livable. Its an amazing car actually, very high tech and fully de-restricted now and around 400bhp I think.

The noise alone would get you down - they are seriously loud. How they manage that from the little peashooter exhausts is beyond me! Standing next to Toshi Arai's Group N monster at the closing ceremony in Germany was unbelievable. His seems to be louder than anyone elses don't know why.

The noise from inside is not as bad as you think, the diffs and transmission make more of an irritatin noise imho.

But your neighbours would want to kioll you.
