The main difference between the STi and the XT is that the STi has the, er, STi suspension, i.e. like an Impreza STi rather than the tall tyres and little wheels on a 'normal' Forester. Oh, and a 2.5 litre engine like on a US-spec Impreza.
And STi seats and dials and stuff.

I'm seriously interested in one, but I'd like a serious test drive first - and feedback from other people who had actually got one. Since there are hardly any of them about that's the difficult bit. Mog on here looks like he's getting one - maybe we can all go and look at his when it arrives, if his wife agrees... (hint )

Chris

We have the XT, but are considering swopping to the STI. Want to chat on Saturday, or even look at one (XT)?

Nearly forgot - the US-spec Forester 2.5XT was faster to 30 than a Ferrari Enzo, according to Car & Driver magazine. I guess the Enzo makes up for it later, but can you get sheets of plasterboard or bikes 'n stuff in a Ferrari Enzo ?

And the STi should be faster than that... it has 55 bhp more then the 2.5XT out of the box, and potentially a lot more.

Nice sideways action:

People under rate Foresters in general.

They are no more 4x4's than an impreza. They are slightly taller with more clearance (I don't need to worry about speed bumps) but you wouldn't want to try off roading.

Mine's not an STi it's a JDM (MY99) Forester but it's still quick enough to pace a UK WRX (IMHO).

You may have a problem when you try to sell it though - the market for rocket powered family cars it tiny although perhaps the STi will be different.

Hi Keith,

That'd be good, although i'm still not 100% sure i can make that meet. The outlaws have invited themselves down (again!) and i'm waiting for clearance
as to whether i can go!

I'll post a reply in your thread in the southern section as soon as i know.

It does look a good car.

I've done a search on autotrader to see how much they were going for 2nd hand but couldn't find any.

Does anyone know what the resales will be like?

I think the posters on this site might disagree:

It's hard to say what the re-sale values will be like, as the 2.5 Forester STI is a new car.

Funny you should say that but the Forester STi we have ordered will have the Type 25 suspension and exhaust fitted, along with the UK remap it should produce around 310bhp and 320Ibs. Mrs Mog will I'm sure post her opinions in about 4 weeks...fingers crossed.

It was, but we fancied something different with similar power and which handled better. We made the mistake of test driving the Type 25 and so the wife has sold her car as well to have the Forester STi with T25 bits and bobs and I'm having the T25 based on a Spec C WR ltd to replace the RS4....4 weeks to go.....

Somebody (I think it was the Insurance another thread) posted a link for
http://www.greyimportinsurance.co.uk/
which is actually A-Plan.

I gave them a try for a Forester STi yesterday. They understood what it was, to the extent that they understood that it was simply a JDM car and not a hybrid. It didn't give them the colliwobbles like it does most insurers. They were fairly familiar with the T25 as well.

Quote for the Forester was for £995, counting it as a group 20 car, includes protected no-claims. That's with full NCB, 49, nil points, car on private drive, self plus spouse, outer Southampton postcode. By way of a comparison, I'm paying £504 for much the same cover on a MY98 UK Turbo with LV, so maybe that will give an idea of the difference.

I'll give Bellevue a try as well. Not looking toooo bad...

Lots of people waiting for Mrs Mog's in-depth review....
